Silencer on HW35?

Hi all,

I really don't want to bother my neighbours by shooting my HW35 in my parent's back yard.

The best way to do this is make the gun more quiet.

I have heard silencers work the best with PCP airguns (because in a springer most of the noise comes from the piston & not the air coming out of the barrel). That said, people seem to say they do have some effect, though not for the shooter. This doesn't bother me as it's the neighbours I'm concerned about.

How much of a difference does a silencer make on a spring air rifle? For £20-40, is it a big enough difference to be worthwhile to someone on a tight budget?

Do any of you HW35 owners have experiences with silencers? Which work the best? Is the Weihrauch slip-on silencer with £40? How do most silencers attach to the barrel?

I tried using the search function already-it didn't yield any results.

Thanks everyone!

I've never used a HW35 but on my cheapy springer a silencer made quite a bit of difference from about 10 yards away onwards. From my point of view i couldn't tell. Might be worth a try although i don't use them because they lower velocity by a small amount.

Carlisle, Unless your HW35 has a chopped barrel, then a Moderator, will not make any differance to the firing signature of your HW 35 at all.....I have several springers ,and, FAC, precharged weapons, The neighbours dog, 4 doors up, dosent utter a sound when I am plinking with 11foot pound springers, and pc weapons..... but the moment I start shooting with a FAC airgun he goes mad.!! so mad I have to pack it in for the day...another thing to remember is that if you are shooting in a different place than usual, is to make your backstop, out of soft material, so the the neighbours dont heare the thwack , thwack, of pellets wackink a hard backstop.. :)
