pressures and tons per sq inch

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have some Hull special pigeon to hand which state an imperial proof of 3 1/4 ton per sq in or metric proof of 850Bar.

If I recall correctly, the imperial and metric proofs are actually measured in a different way so you cannot do a direct conversion.

1 Bar = 14.5 psi

so for ordinary conversion, 3 1/4 tons per sq in = 3.25 *2240 = 7280 psi divide by 14.5 = 502 bar (as above)

However, as stated you cannot convert from imperial to metric proofs unless they were measured using the same method.

See this document www.basc.org.uk/media/100_proof.pdf
