Often when starting out trying to get permission people seem to concentrate on getting a decent area to shoot. But often it can be useful to start small and work up. I had a mate with a smallholding who suffered from rabbits and squirrels. Then it turned out that he owned a small 2.5 acre field a few miles away. He mentioned that I would be shooting there to the ajoining farmer. I then followed up with a visit whilst out mountain biking in the area and now I can shoot over the fields to the side of my friends.

I also started drinking at my local cricket club and after a couple of months started chatting about their rabbit problems. Now I have lamping permission there. It has taken me six months to build up to this rather small collection but I am sure that as the next couple of years pass I will talk to more people, put feelers out and increase my shooting land.

Cheers all. I had to sell my beloved FX2000 air rifle to buy a new 12b shotgun I had my eye on... but have a hushpower .410 for the rabbits so that can often offer a way in. I have a friend with an air rifle who is also seeking shooting land and after I have built up some trust with the owners of my permissions I will ask if he can carry out some rabbit shooting when I am unavailable. I was spoilt for shooting as a kid living in a Welsh country village with an uncle farmer nearby, it's hard not having my shoot start 3 mins walk from my house :drinks:

I am now looking at getting a bit of a rough shoot organised.. that will be a project and a half.
