Salop Matt
Now while Bryn is an amazing dog his nature entails "mischeivious moments" Whilst me and Silver Pigeon are at work little bryn (Cairn Terrier) is at home in the warm and in the kitchen. The lay out of the kitchen is a square room with a Breakfast bar halfway across the room that is 2/3ds the width of the room and cuboards under neith so its a solid wall if you like. We put Bryn on the side of the sink and cuboards and block the open end with a big box. Now the little chap has found a new strengh to be able to push the box out of the way and the chair behind it, this is the second time he`s done this now. How ever the first time he only escaped for the freedom of the whole kitchen diner but this time he had a quick chew to. Am off now to construct a steardy gate for him so he cant repeat this again but I thought i would ask what others do with there dogs that are in the house during the day while your at work ? P.S. Am at home with him lunch times for around an hour so morning and afternoon he`s only alone for 3 hours at a time and has been no trouble or shown signs of unhappyness to date. Bryn is 18 months old and a right charictor ! ! Any advice and thoughts welcome but also to hear what others do would be great !
CharlieT
When we leave ours home alone we put it in a cage in the kitchen or shut it in a kennel/run in the garden.

WGD
When we leave ours home alone we put it in a cage in the kitchen or shut it in a kennel/run in the garden. I agree, crate if inside, kennel/run if outside. 3 hours in a crate for a small dog who has had plenty of exercise and the opportuntity to do the toilet shouldn't present a problem - particularly if he is used to being on his own for that length of time. Check out www.doghealth.co.uk they do a three door crate where the end door is an "up & over" meaning it can be left open when you are in the house without swinging about like a side hung door. Decent quality too.
