deerhunter26
hi all, a friend of mine mite be selling a parker hale 12g side by side it is an old gun but apparently in imacculate condition, i have no clue about p/hale guns just wondered if they were any good or not any help would be appreciated. cheers
clayman
Depends on how old it is. Parker-Hale where a Birmingham gunmaker, but they stopped UK production some time back. Guns overbranded with Parker-Hale name on them were imported from Spain and Italy. Chances are the one you are looking at is a a Ugartechea underneath. Under and overs where made in Italy, and also sold as Midlands. See if it says where it was made, or where the proof marks where done ( could have both Spanish and UK markings ) I have Ug's in stock, so take a look at the pics and see if the guns look the same. 2nd/h you can buy these for £200-£700 box lock, and £500-£1000 sidelock, or there-abouts depending on age and condition. www.####.co.uk If its not one of these, then it may be quite an old gun of original P/H production. The P/H factory produced parts for, or the complete mechanical gun "in the white" ie pre-finishing, for other well known brands such as the BSA range, the WEBLEY & SCOTT and the VICKERS VANGUARD as well as selling their own gun. P/H was also a large producer of rifles, but production was moved to the US in 1990 and although the P/H brand exists in the UK for cleaning accessories and Airgun bits, no UK made or imprted guns to the UK are now sold with the P/H name on them, other than the US Parker-Hale / Midland rifles. To put a value on an original P/H shotgun, you will need to compare the gun to other contemporary makes on the market. Whats the wood like? Side lock or Box lock? Engraving quality? etc etc. Chances are you will find a comparable W&S or Army & Navy or whatever to base a valuation on even if you cant find similar P/Hs about. Depending on what it is, if its a UK made gun, anything from £50 to £2000 could be feasible.
