macca
Hi rarms, yes, and now what is the top one. Both come from the same parent case Cheers
rarms
.17 Fireball then. Did have to google it to confirm though after guessing .17 and the parent Fireball. I guess that is kinda cheating
macca
Hi rarms, very good but not quite it is the 17mack iv. When Remington decided to adopt the case as a factory chamber and load they actually altered the case dimensions slightly. I have guns in both calibre as well as 300/221. I actually prefer the mach iv over the remington equivalent. The mackiv is probably the best fox cartidge going. I use 18 gn BM2 behind a 25 hornady hollow point for about 3800fps - flat to 200 metres, anything in the light (lightforce 240) dies. With moly projectiles I clean thoroughly only every 300 rounds - no fouling problems. Cheers
Guest topshot_2k
sorry, missed this one. I owned a standard .243 for a few years, then tuned in to wsm and wssm when i bought the 300wsm. The 243wssm has about 200fps over the standard one, in factory ammo, and can be loaded a little bit hotter than that with home loads. The wssm runs quite a bit more pressure than the standard. I find the wssm lighter recoiling, and the shorter action is very smooth when a second shot is required. I like the fact that I can reload anything from 55g super fast loads, to 105g supper hard hitting loads all in the same rifle. My standard 243 was a Savage, my wssm is a Winchester M70. I find the Winchester much lighter to carry and faster to the shoulder. May not be the same for everyone. Reports about barrel burn out and throat damage were wildly over hyped. Mine is a couple of years old now, and is still like new. If I had to buy another 243, I would go for the wssm over the standard one. hope that goes some way to answering your question? Russ Nice one thanks, thinking of a .243 for controlling the deer around the farm, saw the .243wssm at a show but never found anyone who had one! might look a little further into it
