sirnovember
I have 15 shell decoys, but every time I set them up I get nothing. I know some good spots, but the birds are not taking to them. Any tips? Thanks Edited February 11, 2009 by sirnovember
Toombsy
Some days they just won't come to them whatever you try, so don't worry. You need to position them under a flight line ideally - an area where you have seen birds passing. Then they need to roughly face into the wind. Then they should be lifted off the ground a little. If you haven't got any plastic spikes with them, use twigs to support them. I like to place them close together on rape (about 3-5ft), and further apart on other crops, and set the pattern at around 25-35 yards from my hide. Good luck mate
MerseaDavid
You should get yourself a bouncer or 2 because these will stand out well from a good distance. As Toombsy said, you need to make sure you are under the flightline and on rape you need to keep your decoys close together because that is how the birds feed on rape. Also I would recommend getting some full body decoys to use as lofted birds in some trees or on a hedge. What sort of set ups have you been using? How do the birds come in (do the turn awy as they come in etc) It might be something to do with your hide maybe.
sirnovember
Thanks. I think the bouncer may be a good idea. How much to they costs roughly?
