gamekeeping/shooting jobs abroad

:( As Axe will tell you I had trouble logging onto Pigeon watch as I have just returned from South Africa having gone there with my Ast keeper to the gamefarm/lodge that is owned by my employer.Over the months you get to realise what you miss in the UK..(Highlands) as the heat and dangers are tremendous. It may look nice/great/cool ..etc to be out there but belive me when confronted with some of the worlds most dangerous wildlife..It aint! The animals that are selected are tagged and licenses are obtained to transport to the many breading programes at zoos/wildlife parks etc ,and can take many days/weeks sometimes to catch/obtain..Waiting in heat is no fun belive me..and mistakes can cost a lot of money.Still want to go?..Ahhhhh! its only a job, some say a "perk"..But Id sooner be with the wife in the cottage here..And how did I get the job?My father was a keeper all his life and I followed him into the "Trade" was sent to the old Game Conservancy and then was employed by his Lordships father here in the Orkney..Eventually through retirements/deaths I became Head some 20 yrs ago.My first visit to Africa was exciting ..but now it is "The job" We dont go every year just when animals are needed,as our terrain is vast some 40 miles across.

:good: The loire valley in the Vendee..Has a large Chateau there called "Chamborg" Told it is good hunting there many

Boar,Pheasant, etc,. A laddie there once applied for a post here and said it was too "up market for him". Ah ! we have had every king/queen of England (and the Scots ) stay here (and shoot)" I replied. "Their only royalty" he said. Cheekie wee laddie I thought..... But on listening to him and checking his expirience .....I gave him the job 10yrs ago. And hes doing fine You would not believe he was a frenchman. So yes you see our profession is perhaps full of "Non British" and it works both ways others fancy the British way of country life (keepering). A.J.
