Hi mate I have fished the river a few times down stream from Lampeter towards Newcastle Emlyn it is one of the nicest and most picturesque game rivers in Britain.

I assume you are after the Trout in which case early season nymphing would be best. I have had good success on a floating line with a sink tip and a Gold head hares ear works well as does darker wet flies like Black and Peacock spiders I have found.

Some big Sewin are caught late spring but can turn up early in the river after a spate. I have taken fish on prawns or Spinning with a small mepps.

I have only caught one slamon on the river that was a 8lb spring run fish in early April. This was caught on a home tied fluro prawn so bright I had to wear shades to put it on the line. The river used to have a good spring run of fish but i havent been down there for a good 6 years

I would be tempted to use a minimum 12lb line if you are salmon fishing as there can be some snags which chaff. I use a 10ft 6 No. 9 single handed rod for the Sea Trout and Salmon and a 10ft No. 6 for the trout.

Good luck I hope you enjoy it and catch some fish. I must make an effort and get down there again myself soon. it really is a super river.

FM.
