Baldrick
I am not a member, but as land agent and landowner, I come into contact with the DI. They are selfish, ignorant and arrogant cocks to a man, and held in extremely low regard locally. They have an unerring ability to weasel their way in with farmers and land managers, proceeding to pay scant attention to any existing deer management operation, killing every trophy animal in sight and then scarpering off to the next client. I have the misfortune of working alongside a couple of other estate managers who have never picked up a gun in their life, who sing the praises of the DI based on the DI's sales pitches and their 'deer management' elsewhere. One colleague is considering getting the DI involved on a farm on the M25 periphery, despite my views and despite my willingness to find a syndicate willing to manage the deer. I'd be interested to hear what others think.
markbivvy
been talking to a farmer today who has been accosted by two representatives of the DI. turned up at the farm on the advice from a friend of a friend and proceeded to tell the farmer how, when, and where they was going to kill all the deer on his land. when asked about deer management they told him the government did not want to discuss management they just needed high numbers of dead deer. something is not right here, the farmer said they was more like the Dalton gang who was backed by the government and a high profile shooting organisation. whats going on............................ alexm
There have been so many threads about the DI recently but still the burning question eludes us... precisely who does the culling they propose? I don't know anyone who stalks for the DI, and none of the stalkers I associate with know anyone who does either! No one ever pipes up and admits to being a member of a local DI 'Deer Management Group' and there is no specific information on their web site either. It's bizarre. Do 'they' (whoever they are) simply take out paying stalkers, who are unaware that they are in fact working for the DI? I think the lack of communication makes the whole thing more sinister than it perhaps is (I hope!) but you would think that someone would step up to explain! What I find particularly objectionable is the inference in the press (at least twice recently that I can think of) that recreational stalkers are unable or unwilling to manage the deer sufficiently. This when we all know for a fact that there is a massive surplus of stalkers who are desperate for just such an opportunity. I think, on this aspect alone, we all have a duty to make sure the press, the public and landowners understand this. Write letters in response to inaccurate articles, talk to landowners and the public and make sure the organisations who we pay to represent us get the message! In the meantime, if you represent the DI, please communicate with us! Edited April 3, 2009 by alexm

I believe that Ferretboy111 has been out with the DI in a woodland not far from Farmerguy.22's land. PM and ask him SS
