col1888
Hi Was on my way back from town, dressed in khaki combat trousers and red hooded top, and saw a farmer busy prepping a field for barley. Stopped my car , got his attention and asked re permission to shoot vermin/pests. He stated "No , there is already a guy who comes round " He then asked " Is this what you do ?" I replied " No, i'm a Police Officer, its my day off". One show of my warrant card, and a query about wether or not i intervene when off duty later, and i now have permission to shoot on over 200 acres of land. Probably helped that he had countless crows and pigeons in the field as we spoke, also states that there are loads of rabbits a bit further up. Mentioned that i have two air rifles, and should get my SGC next week, got FEO visit Monday. When i said about a FAC , he stated he would be happy to back me on this ! So i am now busily filling out my FAC application , for Monday to get both coterminous. I had been in two minds about mentioning my occupation when approaching farmers, but after speaking to him , he states that if i had come straight out with it he wouldn't have said no first off. Popping round tomorrow with a permission letter. This was the first farmer i had spoke too as well ! Col
CZ550Kevlar
I always find it greases the wheels dropping either the right occupation or the right surname into a conversation.
col1888
Hi Was in two minds about it ! Didn't want any farmer to think i was pushing that in their face. But after speaking to him, i can see his point, he doesn't want any old tom, **** and harry on his land, and i am in a reliable , trusted, professional occupation. So i guess it eases his worries. Also he now has an extra pair of eyes on his land, hence the intervening off duty question, i guess ! He didn't mention foxes, i am going to ask for .22lr and .17hmr for short and long range vermin, also sound mods for both, is .17hmr acceptable for foxes in Lincs ? Also if it is for vermin is expanding ammo given or do i have to ask. Col
CZ550Kevlar
YOU have to apply for the ammunition types you want, on my initial grant i asked for 1500 hold 1000 buy for .22lr, .22lr expanding, .17hmr expanding & .17hmr. plus asked for 3 moderators, If you don`t ask you don`t get and are likely to have the firearms section refuse your application because you didn`t ask for the right thing. I believe lincs require .223 or .22 250 as a minimum for foxes, Kent let me have .223 calibre rifle and gave me .223 & 5.56 ammunition slots 600 to hold on each and 500 to buy. so not including my 3 other calibres it`s a potential 7000 rounds of ammo, which is very generous on an initial. My FEO filled my form in for me, i told him the calibres and he filled in the rest for locations of use, purpose etc i just initialed it. EDIT:- The name of the game on an initial is negotiation. Or i would still be looking, and i wouldn't have my FAC. Well worth dropping it in, gives them re-assurance that you are reliable and trustworthy.
