roblade
ok dont panic this is one of the rare suprises we all get form time to time. a little while ago i picked up a second hand TX200 MK1 and took it down the club as you do when you want to try out something new. Once i had it all set up and zeroed did a little long range shooting out to 75 yardds (paper punching only!) and was managing 3" groupings at this distance (with about 24" hold over LOL) 35 yards was clover leaf groupings. So i thought ello this seems a little livley! and deliberatly kept it away from the club chrono as i didnt have the pennies to put things right so you could imagine my suprise today when i DID put it over the chrono (little CB chrono) it wasnt doing anythng spectacular and it suprised the heck out of the people who witnessed it! the power level was 9.5F./lbs!!!!! (average 510fps using AA filed 15.8 grains) so i went to the zero range to check that it was still zeroed and nothing had gone tits up with it, everything was exactly hitting where it was when i first bought teh rifle, all my hold over and under points were unchanged which indicated it was runnign at the same or simliar power level that it always has. this is a rifle that in our club competition came joint first with a daystate MK3 and a rapid 7!!!! (with scores of 38 out of 41) so not only was i shooting a springer and holding my own against the PCP boys but i was shooting with almost 1/4 less power! and from this experiance i have learnt quite a few things: 1. (and most importantly) power does not equal accuracy! 2. always check a rifle over a chrono if you have access to one regardless of what power level you belive it to be doing. 3. dont let the chorno rule you life oir you will suffer from chronoitis, which i must admit i might be suffering from now. But now i find myself in a bit of a dilema, now i know what my rifle is doing what should i do about it? is this power level sufficient to dispatch the vermin? im happy enough shooting it the way it is, im thinking maybe if i get it tuned i may loose a little in accuracy, if i take it to the fields my max hunting distance is 35 yards would i still retain enough energy to do the job on Mr. rabbit? (i think i read somewhere that you need a minimum of 4F/lbs to humanly use air rifles on vermin) but we did work out the reason for thinking it was running a little hot, the TX200 MK2/3 has one very impotrant modification from the MK1 which is they are not short stroiked as the MK1 is! The MK1 sufferes as a result a very short sharp recoil and quiclk lock time, giving the impression of higher power levels than a TX200 MK2/3. i hope this helps some others out there as i said it suprised the hell out of me LOL all the best ROB
