redkite
I'm probably going to look dumb here but I'm genuinely not sure about this...... I have some good land to shoot on with my .22 Rapid 1 but using decoys for the woodies is really hard work....building a hide and then they are feeding somewhere else or where they are feeding is not suitable for hide building etc. So how does this shooting in the roost work. With a Rapid 1 that's set to as accurate as hell at 30yards in the horizontal, what would the point of aim be at say 60-70 degrees up a 30 foot tree.......I did pythagoras at school but I assume I would be aiming low in this scenario but how low? Thanks redkite

Andy75
low-ish we do a lot of rook shooting when the flappers are on the branches - I usually have to aim at the tail when directly underneath them, but less of a hold-under when the angle is shallower. If you're worried, try lofting a target over a branch and having a pop at it. A litre plastic coke bottle works wonders if you tie some string to it; hold on to one end and lob the bottle up over a branch...pull on string until the bottle is right up against a branch then tie it off or stake it in the ground ready for target practice. Whereabouts are you in Warks?
air gunner
How do i putt up my normal pigeon decoys how high up etc? i dont want to buy lofting poles i can shin my self up the sitty tree outer branches inner at the very top etc? Andy75
good man - I'm only down the road in Bidford - home of the ******! lol Let me know if you fancy a get together :o As for the deeks in the trees - if they are coming into roost properly (and might not now at this time of year), you should be able to see the droppings covering the ground around the favourite trees. No real need to stick the decoys up, just shoot the beggars out once they have landed. Works well with a shotty, especially if you can find their flight lines, but we try and get em whilst they are still moving then tho! Carbonrocket
Hi all, My permission owner has given me permission to shoot in his grain barns for pigeons in the rafters at night. Just to make sure as I have been shooting at elevations to get my eye in. Is this practice legal at night? Carbon
