Neels
Hi I am after some advice, or at least an opinion I have two permissions, which are about 600 yards apart, but there is a public footpath that connects these two areas. This footpath is across someone elses farmland that I do not have permission on. Can I legally carry my shotgun (in a gunslip) on the public footpath when I move between the two areas, or do I have to use my vehicle on a normal road to get me and the gun to the other site Cheers Neels edited for bad spelling Edited April 14, 2009 by Neels
libs
Ask the farmer whos land the footpath crosses. If he says yes then problem solved. But if you don't ask or he says no then thats tresspass with a firearm I think. Someone on here must know.
tlr
surely its a public foot path as long as it's in slip its ok? as there is nothing stopping you (if you live close enough) walking to your permission whats the difference?
sapper063
the farm i shoot on i have to cross a road from the farm yard to the main shoot so as long as the weapon is in a slip you should be ok

Think i would agree, it should be ok as long as your gun is in a slip. However, if you know the farmer then a word might be in order simply to save hassle later on if you get challenged. You never know, he may be inclined to give you permission on that field if he has rabbit problems. Best of luck.
Neels
Thanks for that - I'll see if I can speak to the adjoining farmer Neels
poontang
As long as it's secured in a slip it's no problem at all, and perfectly legal. No need to ask the farmer as it's a public footpath

No need to ask the farmer as it's a public footpath Legally no problem i agree, but in the interest of good relations well worth going out of your way to let the farmer know, it can save a lot of hassle all round. The public in my area are very good at letting me know when there are people about with guns that shouldn't be. I would rather be able to say, oh thats Joe , he's ok, instead of getting in the motor and going to see who is walking across my field with a gun. poontang
Badshot, Yes, i agree it wouldn't take 5 mins to inform the farmer, and if i was in that position it's exactly what i would do. My post was simply pointing out that in law there was no NEED to do so.
