  1. Rape is planted in different ways these days, it can be planted from the begining of August to the middle of September. The earlier plantings will most likely be simply spread from the combine and covered with the chopped straw so it will look just like stubble for months until the rape gets taller than the stubble.
  2. Haven't been on for a while been too damn busy. You are on the money there al4x, at £100/ton there is about 5p of wheat in a loaf of bread, at £200/ton there is 10p, so next time they are saying the 25p increase is down to the price of wheat you will have something to reply with. Not even going to comment on the **** that's been put up on here.
  3. Yeah they are for real, been driving me nuts today every time i got out of the combine. I'll be glad when I have cut the wheat as they will be gone then.
  4. http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS...vBAb73AoeIoDVQ= Thunderbugs are thrips (see above link). They are the very small black bugs that descend on you by the million just prior to harvest. They drive you nuts by making you itch due to their tickly little feet, and get in every picture frame and behind the screens of phones and microwaves etc making you think you have hyphens where you don't. In summary no use to anything that I know of just there to annoy. Oh they are mainly (not exclusively though) found in arable areas so if you live in a mainly grass area you probably don't notice them as much.
  5. Do you want some?? I am sure cranfield and I could catch some and stick in the post for you.
  6. Oh good, yet another no win no fee I guess, that is exactly what we need to spend some money on!!! If all these firms were rounded up and sent off to a deserted island somewhere they would all die due to blaming somebody else for not doing something. Pillocks the whole lot of them. My personal feelings are that if you want to play rough, then you have got to expect to get hurt, whoever you play with. If it was me there (in cuffs) I would have expected a beasting, not a squirt of pepper spray. Not likely to happen now though as I grew out of that phase of my life years ago. The police have a difficult job to do and if this blame culture goes on then all we can expect to hear about is " the police stood and watched as the man was beaten to death" headlines. For those who say it won't then how about the pcso's who stood and watched those kids drown because they didn't have the right training?
  7. Some farmers will definitely try to get quick break before harvest, it will be the last chance for some time. Or on the other hand they could still be busy getting ready for harvest (like me). Either way being hassled for shooting is generally the last thing on our minds. Leave a message and be patient, you will know soon enough if there is a problem or when there are fields clear for you to set up on. Oh and the thunderstorm we had here this evening keeps the mind occupied for a while too, rape nearly fit to cut and storms don't mix well.
  8. Update: The birds have basically gone elsewhere for the moment, I will keep you all informed if they return. Thanks again.
  9. Not really my speciality but what about .20 cal, supposed to be very good on reports I have heard. Nice flat trajectory and good knockdown.
  10. Glad you enjoyed it Cranfield, nice spot down there. You are right we are blessed with many natural wonders, but the worst thing has got to be the THUNDERBUGS, they are going to drive me insane. I'll see how things pan out for next week, maybe get you back for another go with Andycm and chippie18 if the birds are still in the area. Very nice to have put a face to a couple of names on here at last.
  11. kin ell ee I am going to go blind watching your avatar. Though it was a bit much every ten Have to say mate has dm80 and noise wise there really is nowt in it. Think it is easier to get a whisper though. And I thought the t8 was designed as a throw away mod after so many rounds? Could be wrong though
  12. Well todays guns got 20 blackies between them and half a dozen pigeons, the birds disappeared by lunchtime entirely but started to come back late afternoon in dribs and drabs. So we have ended the week with 60 odd birds down so a good result really. I have one day organised for next Weds, two guns so far, maybe three. Anyone else want a go? I will be keeping an eye on what they do over the next few days. I would like to say thanks again guys.
  13. I think thats what I had before the whisper. It lasted less than 12 months, non cleanable due to some strange idea of using wadding in the internals. eventually parts of that wadding started dropping down into the path of the bullet sending them off in all directions. Took it back to the shop I got it from and done a deal on the whisper. I have to say the whisper is a piece of cake to clean and I too clean it regularly, not as often as every 10 but certainly every 50 or so. And the whisper is calibre specific which makes a bit of difference, not a lot but a little.
  14. No problem chippy, If they are still about next week we'll try again. Got another day happening tomorrow and a couple of guys on their own possibly. Good to meet you and damn those level crossings are a pain aren't they?
  15. You are more than welcome, glad you got some. Still a few left though. I am currently working out Fridays guns, I know I have one for sure and two maybe's so far. They'll still be at it next week I expect if you want another go. Let me know if you are available and I may well organise a couple more days. Cheers Badshot
  16. Be spraying mine end this week early next.
  17. Due to the length of time it takes to do multiple pm's can ALL who are interested and have PM'd me please let me know what days you can do, I have a couple who haven't so I can't organise them into the scheme. I am looking at a day for multi guns on Weds 7th July. And if they are still hassleing then another day on Friday. I can accommodate 4 at a time. I will add, they really are mad for it now it seems. Hurry up or you will miss out
  18. They said they met a madman with a gun . No really they did say they met you, and what a nice bloke you were. They are staying on my caravan site at the moment. He loves working his dogs down here. You must have done too good an impression of worzel gummidge though, the rooks seemed to like my fert and hit it hard again today , typical isn't it. The neighbour had someone out shooting too so I guess they were being kept on the move. To all who pm'd me for shooting : Thank you very much, I am now set for the rest of the week I think. I have used some locals for now, it doesn't seem right to get you blokes running halfway across the country if they aren't going to play ball. I will try to get some of you in as well though if it looks like they will give you a worthwhile day. Plus the following week is clear if they are still giving me hassle, so watch this space.
  19. Not a complete waste then. Glad you enjoyed it. Have sprayed it all with fert tonight so that will slow them down for a few days anyway.
  20. Quick update. Evil elvis had the day there today and they took one look at him and disappeared into the distance, shame really as they were here in good numbers. If anyone local wants to have a go I will happily let you, they will be back I am sure. If anyone is still interested let me know what days and I'll see what I can do. I am spraying again this evening so wont see the pc again till late.
  21. Just so there is no confusion. This is an offer from me, the farmer, to let you chaps have a go at some blackies, maybe the odd pigeon about too. It is not an invitation to shoot anything that moves. It is also not an open invitation to appear unannounced or regular 'permission'. Don't forget, NO PAPERS, NO SHOOTING. And due to the vagaries of the birds, I obviously cannot guarantee there will even be a single bird there unfortunately. They may sod off at the very sight of you. ATB Badshot
  22. Ok all just got in from spraying, Awge your pm hasn't come to me so don't be upset by no reply. ( just found it sorry) Good response. Could all who replied let me know days that they are available as they are likely to be at it for a week or two now they have started. Hi mallet glad to hear that about licence, I was getting worried it may come back again. Thanks again Badshot. I am replying to all individually but it takes a while waiting to be allowed to do it.
  23. As the wheat is now entering grain fill the rooks etc, have set about it in a BIG way. There are many hundreds of them here and it would suit more than one person I would have thought. Insurance and licence will need to be available for inspection please. PM me to be considered for this. Thanks Badshot
