DanRM
After beating on my dads shoot and watching all the beaters and guns with their dogs for the last 5 seasons i decided that i was about time to get one myself. I was given a border collie crossed with a lab off a friend as it was an unexpected puppy (and the only surviving one) The only problem was i am allergic to dogs... Anyway i decided to go for it anyway on the thought that if it gets too bad my dad would have her but i would still work her myself. The first few days were horrible, i was sneezing, had itchy bloodshot eyes and just felt like *****. however i loved my pup and i still let her sleep on the bed with me and sit next to me on the sofa even tough the way i was feeling. I slowly got better and id stop itching and my sneezing stopped (this was after a month) So i am guessing that because i forced myself to put up with my pup i have built an immunity too her and now i feel fine. 6 months on and im having great fun with her, she walks to heel, sits on command (even though its normally 3rd time lucky atm) and recalls (90% again) But the bit im pleased with most is that after taking her out with the gun a few times i have trained her to sit as soon as i mount the gun when rough shooting
lurcherboy
You are lucky to have overcome your allergy. There is a similar system for hay fever sufferers but alas it didnt work for me Take your time training your dog mate and welcome to PW LB
