Guest topshot_2k
Hi, Im looking into buying a PCP air rifle and have seen a few that are FAC (20-30ftlbs), i currently have a FAC with a .17HMR, .22WMR and .223 on it. Is it pretty simple to get a variation for a high powered air rifle?
CZ550Kevlar
Yep not a problem with them, i believe it`s just treated like a rimfire so nothing special.

CZ550Kevlar
Oh blimey i knew someone would jump on that comment, it`s just a turn of phrase. Just a way of saying it`s treated as a small calibre so no chance of needing huge ammounts of land to use it and no mentor restrictions. Does that satisfy you. Or would you like it even more analy retentive?
Rick O'Shea
Hi, Im looking into buying a PCP air rifle and have seen a few that are FAC (20-30ftlbs), i currently have a FAC with a .17HMR, .22WMR and .223 on it. Is it pretty simple to get a variation for a high powered air rifle? Yeah it's no problem at all really providing you have suitable land and good reason as I'm sure you already know. It will cost you £26 for an additional item on your ticket or swap for one of your others - .22WMR maybe as you already have the .17HMR! I always make sure I put down moderator for every calibre as well! As a matter of interest my Theoben Rapid Mk1 in .20 cal FAC is up for sale at the mo if interested. See the for sale section - got pictures of the full set up. I see you are Northampton way - I work in Mkt Harboro if you wanted to take a look at it? Let me know. Guest topshot_2k
Thanks for the replies, i already own a .22WMR rifle for foxing at shorter ranges and the .17HMR is for pests etc so it will have to be an addition. I have never had to do a variation but i believe i need to write a letter stating my 'good reason' for owning a high powered air rifle? I basically need a silent rifle for around the woods and farm buildings as at certain times of year (lambing season, Game shooting season etc) my .17HMR creates a bit too much noise! And yes i have moderators for all my current rifles on my certificate, do Air rifle mods need to go on there aswell? Rapid sounds tempting, if the variation goes through i will certainly have a look at it (if its still for sale) Edited April 21, 2009 by topshot_2k
CZ550Kevlar
Yep you need to justify good reason for the grant. Air rifle moderators do not require a slot, that is the reason why alot of .22 rimfire shooters use "air rifle moderators". Just a thought but why not go for a .22lr?? with moderator, they are very silent all you hear is the click of the action cycling on a semi or on the bolt action no noise at all, .22lr rifles are dirt cheap to buy compared to FAC air rifles and so much cheaper to maintain. Guest topshot_2k
because with an Air rifle i can adjust the power for close range shots, also the .22lr tend to richochet too much for where i will be using it The Moderator laws are silly as the gunshop made me put my SAK on my FAC even though you can buy it off the shelf for a unlicensed airgun
