Baldrick
As a traditionalist, I cannot stand the look of stainless rifles, but they require less maintenance. If you are using it on the hill every day, get a stainless model. I used my (walnut/blued) rifles almost every day, but I am prepared to put in the cleaning work to keep them in good condition. ODG
Interesting - I'd've thought that a blued barrel would be better for field use, as it'd be less likely to 'give you away' (due to the shine), although of course it requires more cleaning... Any more opinions? So far it's 100% stainless...

Baldrick
The finish of the metal is what creates the reflection: stainless steel can be bead-blasted or vapour-treated to dull it right down. If I were you I would go for stainless. The Howa's stainless finish is quite muted.
JohnGalway
Stainless for anything you'll be bringing home in the early hours wet and tired, they're very hard to turn orange
