John_R
Please stop typing all in caps! Anyhow, are you trying to connect up the magnet and controller with the speed turned up? If so, that might be your trouble. Always do it with the speed turned down or preferably off, as that way you don't get a surge to begin with. Imperfection
Not trying to teach granny how to suck eggs, but are you connecting it to the battery correctly and not **** about face? Johns suggestion of turning it off before connecting is spot on and especially so if you're using a high amp battery like a car one.
Bluebarrels
As Imperfection said, this is the most common problem, connecting to the bty **** about face, your leads should be colour coded, and the terminals on your bty should also be colour coded, black and red,you should carry spare fuses with you on your shooting trip(pennys from Maplins) otherwise your going to cart your kit into the field and find it unusable, which could spoil your days sport BB
