Salop Matt
Okay folks am looking for a day or two pheasant shooting in the new season. I have only done beaters days before but have been shooting 11 years and am BASC insured. I would be happy to drive for upto an hour but have a budget of £100 - £150 per day at most. I dont mind being a back gun or walking gun and would very much enjoy a duck drive in the day to. I know this isnt impossible as last year my dad did this for £120 for the day and had a very good day and bag. If anyone can help that would be good
Bleeh
At the amount of money you are looking to spend, I would recommend that you get yourself involed within either a rough shoot, or, you try involve yourself with a DIY syndicate shoot, and you spent time helping keeper the game. Prehaps try and invole yourself with an evening wildfowling or something. At a formal driven shoot, birds (this year) range from £25-£35 each. You will be lucky to get a full days shooting anywhere formal for £150. This is not including a tip for the gamekeeper/guide - which can be around £20. richg
For the last two seasons myself and four friends have taken days on a local estate, these days are described as walkabout days. Basicly it's a day with the keepers, and we spend the day doing mini drives on parts of the estate not normally covered on driven days. The keepers take us round in the gun bus, and to all intents and purposes it's a driven day, we provide our own drinks and lunch, we get driven birds and shoot ground game, normally we get between 45 and 60 head depending on how we shoot. And the cost for all this is £600 per day between us plus tips, thats £120 each. We always tip £30 each, thats £150 for a fantastic day and we can take as much game home as we want. These days are fantastic value and i think more shoots will be putting on this kind of day, also it enables us to shoot on estates out of our price range. If you look in the shooting press you will see ads for this type of day, give them a ring you might be surprised. At the end of the day what we want is a good day out in good company and the opportunity to shoot a few well presented birds that you can remember. We will be looking for more days like this.
