Stance of the parties

I was this morning browsing the BASC website and they have a bit to do with the stances of the political parties towards shooting sports. I found it pretty interesting and I found out things I wouldnt have known about. Out of The Conservative, The Green Party, Labour, Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru, the Greens are the only party that take a negative view of shooting sports.

 

Here is an extract of their manifesto:

 

The Green party:

Prohibit handguns, multishot and high calibre weapons, and automatic and semiautomatic firearms. A Gun Safety Advisory Committee will regularly review which weapons are prohibited. ...

 

Create a single licensing process that considers public safety before the convenience

of shooters. Users of firearms for sporting or agricultural purposes will be required to

demonstrate their competence in handling firearms and satisfy the authorities of their

mental and emotional stability.

To summerise they are wanting to ban all guns except from standard shotguns and small caliber bolt action rifles. Toughen up the licensing system bracketing all remaining non banned weapons togther and make it more difficult to get a licence. I'm assuming they also want to make it compulsory to have went through a course in how to handle firearms.

 

They use this as the justification:

Gun crime is a particularly serious problem and the Green Party is committed to tackling it by ensuring a high level of gun control as well as addressing the social factors such as 'gun culture'.

I recon gun crime is here to stay. They can ban guns all they like, but if a crook wants one I recon he could get one run in quite easily.

Yeah. How many times do you hear about crack dealers shooting each other with 12-bores?

 

edit: or even 4-bores (as that's what they're banning)!
