deny essex
If like me you are getting on and having trouble humping heavy weight magnets and batteries around fields , those D.I.Yer's amongst you might be interested in the kit ive nearly finished, made primarily from odds and sod's lying around the shed . primary parts:- motor and gearbox one of those realy cheap re-chargeble screwdrivers . stand 2 parts of ex fishing rod rests. speed controler from a knackered out rechargable drill. battery 6vx6amp hour twigs a mix of aluminium and glassfibre rods from B&Q Too much for me to go into construction details but the whole kit ex battery weight about 3 lbs. battery about a 1lb and a bit. Driver was originaly a re-chargeble 3 volt cheap plastic job. checked the current rate and seems to draw loaded about 3/4 of an amp, makeing the 6 amp hour battery last approx 10 hour, although i made it primarily for plastics the torque seems powerfull enough for real birds , and before anyone says aly arms are too weak, made an aly arm job 5 years back and mate still uses it, albeit a little on the bent side now . bird holders still to be finished . barrie0
That looks a cracker , if you do get time please post how you made it as I have an old drill and screwdriver lying about somewhere , how did you join all the parts up ? as my diy skills are around 50/50 . I presume a motorbike battery would be ok .
deny essex
Hi Barrieo, Will report how it goes hopefully after next weekend good or bad if i get the carriers finished . The motor to rod rest mount i suppose i cheated , its glassfibred to the pole (its my job ), forgot to say the arms are foldable as a one piece unit and the motor to arm mount is one of the hex screwdriver bits welded to the arm mount , just drops into the motor shaft the same as a screwdriver bit, and the tri stabilisers at the bottom are colapsable to the main stem, , thought is main stem is pushed in to the ground as deep as nessesary, then the adjustable stabilisers grounded with the small kickers, and a nurled bolt tightened to the main shaft.
