JonD
Probably a dumb question but i'll ask it anyway Why do so many people, FEO's included refer to the relevant piece of paper as a shotgun licence or firearms licence when the actual application form and certificate when granted states shotgun\firearms certificate? Billy.
Can't remember the last time I bought a bottle of White Lightning from the 'Off Certificate' Driving certificate? Fishing certificate? Game certificate? Certificate to Kill? TV certificate, which pays for the awful likes of Britain's got Talent... Wikipedia will answer this for us: "The noun license (licence in British spelling) refers to that permission as well as to the document memorializing that permission. License may be granted by a party ("licensor") to another party ("licensee") as an element of an agreement between those parties. A shorthand definition of a license is "an authorisation (by the licensor) to use the licensed material (by the licensee)."" groach1234
certificate noun |sərˈtifikit| an official document attesting a certain fact, license |ˈlīsəns| noun ( Brit. licence) a permit from an authority to own or use something, do a particular thing, or carry on a trade (esp. in alcoholic beverages) : a gun license | [as adj. ] vehicle license fees. Hope this clears things up i think its just one of those things people say, i have always called it a license but so has my dad so that'll be why.
