Bombadil
Was great weather today so i decided to go out with my sisters boyfriend shooting on his permission with the air rifle. Got a fair few opportunities at both pigeons and rabbits, but for some strange reason none of the shots were hitting. I decided to check that i hadn't some how managed to knock the scope out of zero by shooting at a paper target. The result was a near enough perfect grouping exactly where i was aiming. So i put it all down to strange bad luck and went at it again, and once more none of the shots were hitting. I can't at all think why, the cross-hair was dead on target, there was no wind at all, all the targets were at the correct range. The only thing i noticed myself doing wrong was the bad habit which i though had fully left my system of lifting my head from the stock immediately after the shot, but i would have to be very fast to have that effect the shot surely. Anybody had any similar experiences and know why? Great day either way, got to watch a nice sunset in a clear sky, enjoy the countryside and forget i have masses of revision to do for my exams. Bleeh
Head lifting is surpising good at moving your rifle. Try and break the habbit, you'll be surpised with the results. Also, what's the gun? any chance it's too weak and just not killing? Edited May 31, 2009 by Bleeh

I was using a webley stingray, 12ftlbs i believe, but it is 6 years old now, maybe the spring needs checking
John_R
You need to learn "follow through" which means that you watch (though the scope) the shot land before you move a single muscle, don't even release the trigger finger. It will make a huge difference to your shooting. You should chrono the gun, or if you have not got one, ask someone who has. You can buy them brand new for only £40, the Combro one is perfect for air rifles. With that you can keep an eye on the muzzle velocity.
