bsg
im currently thinking about applying for my fac (already have sgc) and was wondering if there was a minimum amount of land needed for a .22lr. i currently only have 7 acres which i personally own. What is the likly hood of being granted a fac for my land or will i have to get written permission on the surronding land aswell. i live out in the sticks so there i very few people around and not really much that would be a hazard. also would the feo be more likly to grant a .17hmr on my land? robsmyth
Your best bet is to talk to your FEO. 7 acres isn't really the question, it's a matter of safe backstops from your intended shooting positions. You will probably be required to be accompanied by a mentor to acess and report on your safe handling and use of the firearm. Some authorities prefer 177 HMR because of the frangible tipped bullets, which virtually eliminate ricochets. Don't be afraid to ask I have found them to be nothing but helpful. Good luck and welcome.
humperdingle
Whatever the size of piece of land you have, you have to ensure that no shot will go beyond your boundaries, so the fact that you're in the middle of nowhere counts for little. Hard to say if the 7 acres will be deemed suitable, but as stated, phone your local firearms dept and they'll help you. What distances are you likely to be shooting at? bsg
60-100yards (pest control ofc) is all fairly open grass land so but the length of it is the problem putting almost everything out of range for the shottie. getting permission on the surronding farmland is not a problem as already have verbal permission for clearing out rabbits on iit.
