rimfire4969
After a couple of pms between Smig4373 and myself talking about different permissions we have we decided to meet up and chose one Smigs farms near his house, of a after work shoot about 5.00 pm. Took me about 15 mins to get there where i was greeted by Smig and what a very nice bloke he is. We talked a bit looked where the pigeon were and decide on our placement of our hide, under a flight line in one field with 2 more field of cabbages nextdoor. We decided to share a large hide and take alternate birds, this way we could have a chat and see if indeed we did like each other. After a few hours i felt very at ease, we got a few pigeon couple of good shots and a few c**p ones. Luckly even after knowing each other a couple of hours it did not stop the p**s being taken. I dropped a quick bird with my second barrel who came down behind us in a different field, it was hit hard and to get it was going to be hard work a very tall hedge lots of brambles so we left it to pick up later. We started to notice after a while the pigeon were avoiding our set up, no great problem we were quite happy chatting having the odd shot. After about an hour or so in a quiet period i went to get the pigeon behind, on climbing up the hedge i with found myself looking at a buzzard pulling the pigeon to bits, the pigeon looked like a sucide bomber and the bomb had gone off, feathers everwhere, i dont know how long the buzzard had been there but the pigeon was not worth recovering. Might be a good reason for the pigeon avoiding our area. While chatting and waiting we saw a lot of pigeon dropping in the field nextdoor, with the cabbage being about 1ft high we could split up and approach from different ends of the field without the pigeon seeing us straight away. We were both amazed after about 100 pigeon got up, luckly for me it was Smig who spooked them and a couple headed my way and i dropped one. By now time was getting on and we headed back to the hide, a very unlucky Jackdaw decided to cross in front where he was brought down with a nice shot from Smig. All the pigeons crops were so stuffed full of cabbage i can see why the farmer wants them moved on. Not a big bag 8 pigeon and the Jackdaw. But for me it was better than a day on my own shooting 50. We have already sorted our next shoot next week. With plenty of ground between us we should have plenty of shooting pigeon and rabbit. Thanks again to Smig4373
