Practice between shoots.....

I can't get down to a shooting ground in between weekend shoots but am desperately keen to improve.....I do dry mounting practice in the week but am wondering if there is a more accurate way of making the dry mounting practice of more value. I starting shooting a few months ago, rather later in life than I had aimed for, but hey, at least it happened :good:

Am having regular coaching sessions every fortnight or so, yet to shoot a comp though as I find I'm just not consistent enough to have the confidence to venture out to one. I know we all have better days and lousy days shooting, but I can shoot 20/25 skeet one day and 10 the next. Same with Sporting - can straight the same stands that I cannot hit a week later. Very frustrated as I really want to improve a bit and achieve a bit more consistency - any ideas which may help me improve?

I've improved my kit steadily over the months, started out with an inexpensive starter gun which didn't fit very well and I swopped over to a very nice Browning Ultra XS Prestige 30" 12g Adj fitted to me; next thing were the specs: as I use prescription lenses, I found the cheap Top Gun kit a bit of a problem with optical distortion and misting up even with anti-fog spray, so made the investment in Hidefspex which are great. Can't fault the kit now, I guess you get what you pay for, but I just need to improve to a point where I'm reasonably consistent instead of amazing one day and dreadful the next time out. I'd appreciate advice from the experienced shooters out there..... :hmm:

I found that going to as many different shoots as possible starts to pay dividends and have a noticed a marked improvement (well i think so anyway but sure some would disagree).

These may not be the same :P

You're probably shooting them from memory, doing what you did last time. Problem is, they may have tweaked the traps, slightly faster or slower, or angles slightly different. I used to do this a lot, but now I've got a bit better at looking at what I'm shooting at and not just doing what I did last time. It's not easy, because it's a bit instinctive if you shoot the same ground all the time.

This is why I also agree with Bigweed. Getting out and about to more different grounds helped me to stop doing this, as everything was always new and needed looking at carefully before shooting. :good:
