p-a-s
The best way to feed rabbit is,raw.I know people that feed the complete rabbit minus the guts, and there dogs seem to do well on it.But my opinion thats just lazyness(tin hat on).If your feeding raw rabbit prep it and freeze it for 3 weeks this kills any parasites and eggs, otherwise your going to be worming your dog more often. If you only want to feed cooked rabbit, just plain boil it for 20 mins then turn the heat down and simmer untill you see the meat starting to come off the bone.Pick all the flesh off and feed with some of the cooking water,or use the cooking water another time to soak complete meal with.hth
jinxy72
i fed my dogs on the barf diet m8 and all that is raw meat ... brilliant results just dont waste the rabbit kidneys and liver ( if no fluke ) and give mixture of meat and organs with some green veg ( to aid digestion .. i used broccoli mashed and mixed in ) ull have brilliant results ... the only other thing i added ( as per barf diet ) was a teaspoon of oil with the meal ..... i used kelp oil which was expensive but can use cod liver oil
racingfrank7
Thanks for that guys, What i did in the mean time was boiled bug's for about an hour then i left to cool before pulling the meat off the bone, then mixed it with his normal biscuits and a spoon full of pro-biotic yoghurt. He loved it not to mention when i came home with it and cooked it he never left my side or stopped licking his lips !!! Looks like i'm going to be rather busy from now on !!! racingfrank7
The reason i have had to go down this route is that he went right off his food, so i just thought it was a bug so starved him for a day then tried to go back to normal, but didnt really change, some times he would eat like normal some times didnt want to know. In the 2 and a half years i've had him (since a pup) he's never faultered with his food, he has never been given *** bits or allowed to beg. Then he started waking me up at 5am wanting to go out, take him out (thinking he needed loo) all he wanted to do is eat grass ( i know its what they want to do when they want to be sick) also his tummy would be making some right noise then there's no way he would eat, but if he did the noise stopped and you could just get him to eat then all would be normal again. After a 2weeks with no change i thought it was time for vets..... Vet didn't know and took a blood test..... £120 later i get the results saying he has pancritist, (spelling?) so i resarch on net and everything says its in old dog's over wait dogs or under walked dog's Mine is 2 and a half, as lean as you can get and we do 5-6 miles every day with with my dinner hour consiting of a 1 mile walk and playing then every night 4- 5 miles of rabbiting, so none of it figures, And to top it off they said he needs to be on a special low fat probiotic diat at £16 for 2 kg of biscuits and 15 for 6tins of dog meat ! So not fancying getting ripped i thought about it and thought rabbits are as low fat as you can get and all i do when i shoot them is give them away, then for the probiotic bit, that would be a big spoonfull of probiotic youghurt all mixed in with bakers biscuits. Result .... He loves it and is back to his normal self Hence the orignal post, sorry all for long reply above Dont know if any one else has had any prob's like this
jinxy72
dam young for those probs m8 ..... rabbit is the "perfect" meat really ... with this i mean more protein lb for lb than steak with minimal fat and vitually no cholesterol ....... perfect for humans and dogs . dont get me wrong i didnt feed mine "BARF" to get lean muscular results but i wanted to feed the best i could ... and the only reason i stopped is i have a very fussy eater who refused to eat it anymore one thing i have noticed since i have stopped is the quality of their fur has dropped .... not as shiney and feels dry .. and i feed them quality dried food not cheap **** !!!! ur dog should appear healthier really .. more energy, better coat etc . but end of the day what ur doing is brilliant for ur dog .. shows u care m8
