casts_by_fly
Hi Guys, In the US, most everything is either drywall over stud or (in older places) plaster over wood lath. I just moved house and I'm trying to figure out what type of wall I have. Previously I was anchored into stone, so no problem there. The new wall (an external wall) is smooth like drywall but hard and solid. When you knock on it with a knuckle it feels like concrete and is very solid. I think I had to deal with this type of wall before, but it was just hanging pictures. I assume a drill and some rawl bolts are going to be my preferred cabinet mounting option? What about nails to hang pictures? Last time I had something similar, I had to find extra hard nails as anything thin would bend over when you tried to pound them in. Of course that left some unsightly holes in the wall as the concrete like stuff and paint chipped a bit. Thanks, Rick
codling99
depending if its a fairly new home,if it is ,probably brick ,rendered with cement and palstered.if it old stone house,it be stone renedered and plastered. so solid either way,raw bolts and drill needed, masonry nails for pics, the type they use in pipe clips would be fine. casts_by_fly
thanks! It is a barn conversion, done less than 10 years ago. It is all brick outside, so you're likely 100% right. Thanks, Rick
