Colster
Right, you lot have got me hooked on this shooting lark and now going to go for my FAC but have a few questions I can't find solid answers to but I'll bet most of you lot can do off the top of your heads, so if you're sitting comfortably I'll begin. For info, I have about an acre of garden and currently a permission of 450acres which is already cleared up to .243 (Deer, Fox, Rabbit etc) but I am looking to apply for .22LR (and possibly FAC air) The guidance notes say that ammo must be kept separately, will a cabinet with a lock box in the top suffice (eg this one) or do I need a completely separate safe. If I want to use the LR in the back garden for target practice, do I need to get my own land cleared for .22 and what sort of backstop do you need to stop a .22 round from a minimum of 25yards (upto 60 yards)? When do you buy the cabinet? Do you usually get a notification that a certificate WILL be granted subject to cabinet inspection or do they expect to see it on the home visit. For ammo, does applying for storage of 1500 rounds and purchasing 1000 sound about right? If I have a SAK mod fitted, does that have to be noted on the application and does it occupy a slot on my ticket? If I apply for FAC air, do I have to state what power it will be? For a FAC rifle, does the shot count for a BSA Ultra just dwindle to nothing/would it need reggin anyway? And what sort of power could it get to (looking for about 30ft/lbs)? Sorry for all the questions but I like to get my head round these things before I start sending off forms, then find I've got 24hours to install a gun cabinet to then find they're on 4 weeks delivery. Cheers, Col.

Integral or seperate are both fine. If I want to use the LR in the back garden for target practice, do I need to get my own land cleared for .22 and what sort of backstop do you need to stop a .22 round from a minimum of 25yards (upto 60 yards)? I'll pass on that one. Your FEO would be the person to speak to. When do you buy the cabinet? Do you usually get a notification that a certificate WILL be granted subject to cabinet inspection or do they expect to see it on the home visit. Unless you have a good reason to suspect you won't get a FAC, i'd install one before hand. For ammo, does applying for storage of 1500 rounds and purchasing 1000 sound about right? Most force areas seem to like hold 600 / buy 500 unless you're target shooting. If I have a SAK mod fitted, does that have to be noted on the application and does it occupy a slot on my ticket? Yes and yes. If I apply for FAC air, do I have to state what power it will be? No. FAC air and the calibre. For a FAC rifle, does the shot count for a BSA Ultra just dwindle to nothing/would it need reggin anyway? And what sort of power could it get to (looking for about 30ft/lbs)? Not a Scooby!
