Outlander Posted August 5, 2016 Report Share Posted August 5, 2016 When we were out on a walk when i was getting my spaniel used to gun fire I would get her to sit next to me and point my stick shotgun style in the air and say bang , after a couple of weeks or so working up to a shout, never try to go too fast with it and try to make it an enjoyable experience for the dog. norfolk dumpling Posted August 8, 2016 Report Share Posted August 8, 2016 Took wife's young lab to a game fair where there was a clay shoot a hundred yards or so away and it never flinched as the shooting increased. Moved closer and still no reaction. Went to 3/4 fairs that first season. Although wife doesn't work lab whenever we are near gunfire (lots going on around my house during the season) it never reacts to shots even when very close. Never did anything special with my current cocker - her desire to hunt/fetch seems much greater than any issue with noise.
