Missed last years rape by one day as they cultivate it within days of being cutt. This year me and my mate mick thought we had it in the bag with hopes to be dashed as someone was shooting it last nite. I went and had a look after work and the guy had left early and birds where pouring in to the field so we made a plan to meet up at 10 this morning and go have a look and see if there were still birds feeding. Got there and theres a few feeding couple of lines in same as the last few days that i had been watching them so we split up with mick in the prime spot as he hadnt shot since the drillings. Slow to start with few birds geting into micks decoys and the odd couple into mine about 2 o clock birds started to turn up on mass 3-4 s. But then to our horror so did the bloody discer and **** cart i managed a couple more birds as he made a few passes at micks end and that was it time to pack up with birds coming in from everywhere. My highlight of the day was to take probably one of the best birds ive taken 35 yds up hammering past down wind swung through and smashed it unfortunately it landed 30 odd yds back in the maize i was stood in and i couldnt find it anywhere. Left the field in a huff because we both knew that we would of had plenty of shooting but thats the sport we all love sometimes it just doesnt turn out how you think or hope fingers crossed the wheats cutt in the next ten days or so. Last year had a few small but gratefull bags. Anyway to smooth over the disapointment my missis just cooked me one of the best pigeon diners ive eatern sat in the garden with a few ice cold ciders to wash it down better luck next time ehhh !
