scout
Hi all, Can anyone offer me some advice. I have been shooting with air rifles for years, and think it's about time I applied for my first FAC. I shoot rabbits and other such vermin over 60 acres, and would like to expand my shooting opportunites. Should I be putting down more than a single rifle on my FAC application, was thinking of a .22lr for vermin and a .17hmr for vermin and fox, does this sound reasonable? Also what amounts of ammunition should I be asking to store and buy for the above. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks
harv
sounds about right put em both down, 500 rounds each, dont forget to put sound mods down if you want them later it'll cost you extra as a variation

Dave-G
With only 60 acres (at the moment?) I'd apply for FAC air and 17HMR. Once you have the permission to acquire you can up the power of your air rifle if you have the kowledge, try it - then notify D&C within 7 days that you have a section one air rifle. As said elsewhere also apply for the sound moderators.
peacey
My FLO told me to put down 750 bullets to have and 500 to purchase to give a decent float. Just make sure you apply for what you need to save wasting time on variations. I'd put down all three, all they do is look at your permission and tell you what you can and can't have depending on the land. Ideally your land needs loads of back stops and not much chance of public activity. I shoot a 150 acre golf course with a public footpath running right through the middle and is obviously full of golfers. I have to put signs up on the 1st and 10th tees can only go at certain times blah blah, it gets really complicated where the public are involved. I forgot to tick the moderators box but when he came out to go through things he amended it so it saved me the variations. Also people don't realize you can't just go and trade your firearm in and take another away. You have to tell the firearms dept you've sold it and then send a letter asking to be able to buy another one so when you buy a rifle make sure you get the right one, spend a bit of time on looking and getting the right gun for you. Hope you get your license best thing i ever did. Edited February 21, 2008 by peacey
