  1. I have a dog and she is as soft as a brush and will let the kids maul her. My kids are old enough now that I trust them with the dog on their own but like most who have expressed an opinion I would never ever totaly trust any dog period let alone with a child. When I'm out walking I come into contact with people with dogs. Some say "oh he's fine he won't hurt you!!" I don't care, unless I personaly know the dog I treat them always with caution. I would refuse to go to a friends house with my kids because he had a dog that bared his teeth to kids. My friend could never understand my reluctance. I knew that the dog was a lovely dog, it just had a little time for kids and would let us know. Dogs are pack animals and need to be dominated just like a pack leader would. Kids are easily dominated by dogs and like it has been said earlier, they do have a killers instinct. Small dogs are just as bad a large dogs but their jaws will not open too far so their ability to deliver killer bites are less often. taz.
  2. Cheers OneEye. I'm not in any real rush realy. The friend I shoot with has two guns and the sites I shoot at have loan guns so I'm not short of choice. I'm not shy while out shooting and I do ask other people about their guns and I always ask questions and listen to other people. After listening to one guy one day I went from my usual hit one miss a few, hit one miss a few to hit six out of eight, hit eight out of ten. Cheers taz.
  3. The Escorts are relatively cheap arn't they If I play my cards right I could just about afford one of those and a second hand O/U. I'm finding more and more comfort from the replies I have recieved. Not wanting to put words in other peoples mouths the consensus of opinion is that people should shoot with what they like and stuff any body who says otherwise. Safety being the first, last and biggest factor in shooting, the type of weapon used is not important. Cheers guys.
  4. I know what you mean. I don't know if it is my inexperienced eye or what but I do like the way a used gun opens and closes. Like I said it might be inexperience but when I've held new guns I've found them stiff and unresponsive. I've mainly shot with borrowed guns and I like the speed with which I can open, remove cartridges, load and close again with the older (what I call slacker) gun. Cheers taz.
  5. Verminshooter says miroku is a top o/u you wont go far wrong with it. Says the man who shoots the semi. taz.
  6. Sorry for any confussion. When I say I like the way they look I do, but I also do like the feel of them. I'll never say never but I can't see myself on many organised shoots. at the moment I'm content to shoot clays and i have the opportunity to shoot at a privately owned pond. I think I'll go with the Miroku and save upfor a second gun. Will do. Thanks taz.
  7. I also like the look of the Miruku (spelling) O/U and like I said earlier I shoot better with the shorter barrel. I'm on a tight budget. Pooling my christmas money. I could afford a new semi or a reasonable second hand Miruku 26 to 28 inch. Cheers taz.
  8. Cheers Vermin. Snobs don't bother me (shooting or otherwise). I think it does not help with the fact that my shooting buddy (mentor) disaproves of them in a big way. I think he would be my biggest obsticle but I do like the look of them. Cheers taz.
  9. Auto Culto & EvoCars thanks for your replies. I am still learning, the truth is I'll be learning for ever I've shot with a lot of guns but I seem to shoot better with shorter barrelled guns. At the moment I've only shot clays and then not as much as I wanted but I've seen quite a few people using semi's and they seem to be pretty well accepted. Cheers taz.
  10. As I stated in my opening introduction i would be asking questions. Whats your opinion of Semi Auto's. I'm still new to the sport and like the look of them but my shooting buddy is against them in a big way. He does not like the idea of not being able to break them to prove safe. What do you guys think. Cheers taz.
  11. You would get a good PC for £600 and have change left over. PC world do have advertised a good spec PC for about £400. Why not get a good laptop and keep mobile. You could get a good Toshiba laptop for about £500. Cheers taz.
  12. did not bow to the thuggish miners I dissagree with you there. I'm not a miner but come from a mining community. I have seen the total waste and deprivation that has resulted because of what she did. Whole communities totaly abandoned with the closure of the mines. No hope or future for countless generations. All our heavy industry stripped and sold off out of the country. The only work for anyone is now is now in the service industry. Don't get me wrong I do not think any other PM has done as much for the country. But just because she has done so much it does not mean it is all good. taz.
  13. Hello all. Just thought I'd stop lurking and introduce myself. New to shooting, so I'll be asking loads of questions if thats ok. Have only been shooting clays for about six months now. I live in Yorskshire and I am in short walking distance to miles and miles of open countryside. I have not shot at anything other than clay, but my friend has access to a duck pond and he is alowed to shoot there. He is trying to get permission for me to attend one day soon. Thats about it for now so have a good christmas and a safe new year. taz.
