  1. im in the same boat. The BSA Ultra is much cheaper but the AA is definitely a much better gun from what i've read up on and been told. Im going for the Air Arms unless someone can come up with a very good reason not to.
  2. I'm guessing that you dont actually know your onions either. 9mm parabellum was designed long before any of the "shoot to wound" myths surfaced and therefore does not mesh with your argument. The reasons behind the adoption of smaller calibre rounds for combat arms was to reduce weight and thereby allow the soldier to carry more ammunition. The long held and oft quoted rubbish about smaller bullets being designed to wound surfaced in the 70's. The "thinking" behind it is utter ****. What a wonderful idea it would be to hose a load of enemy soldiers and then close with their "corpses" only to find that they are still able to fire their weapons, just at the point you are right on top of them. ZB Actually the thinking is corect as an ex infantry soldier you are told in training the reasons behind the lower calibre round firstly its weight we can carry more ammo, u will be supprised but we only carry 4 charged mags and they can go in minutes in a firefight so we carry bandaliers of ammo and 5.56 is much lighter than 7.62 and secondly the wounding is correct 1 wounded man can take upto and over 5 other to deal with him and then there is all the back up that is needed in medical supplies helicopters and so on... I wouldnt be surprised at all about the amount of ammo carried, as Trussman says I am ex army. As far as the wounding effect of small calibre rounds is correct, the adoption of smaller calibre rounds was not driven by this, now where they designed specifically to have this effect. Does it not strike everybody as more than a little bit of a coincidence that the change from the 7.62 to smaller calibres like 5.56 and 5.45 happened right about the same time as those countries adopted assault rifles with the capacity to fire on full auto? (I'll grant you that the Russians stuck with 7.62 for a while but then they are mental) Full auto= Potential for more rounds to be fired = Requirement for lighter ammo. As for SMS guitarists comments about being "taught by the right people", I was taught by instructors at my army training regiment, as well as the Small Arms School Corps staff, exactly the same as Kingo I suspect (depending on when he joined). Aside from having a "mate" who keeps telling you things which you then regurgitate on here, what exactly is your pedigree which allows you to be so condescending? ZB I posted that comment late last night when i was tired and only realised this morning how condescending it sounded. So for that i apologise.
  3. finally Kingo! A man who has been taught by the right people! I understand what everyone else has been saying and often they are not referring to your average 9mm pistol.
  4. Hey is this the single piece stock version or the two piece? Also would you consider posting since i have no way of travel? Cheers, Lewis
  5. ^^^^ you cant change the reality of evolution im afraid. .22 all the way but check with a gun smth
  6. i know a guy with an AA S410 which isn't FAC or tuned illegally before you ask and i've seen him drop rabbits at 60 yards. I guess its whatever your capable of but i wouldnt reccomend anything over 50 even with FAC.
  7. hahahaha that night time running up to the (pet) rabbit made me wet myself.
  8. You stole my buy!!! :-p I went onto that post to buy and after checking my money you had bought it! it doesnt matter i couldnt really afford it anyway what with rising debts :-)
  9. I'm guessing your not familiar with tactics of war. Bullets from military used guns are designed to wound. Yes they kill when shot in the right places but their actual design is to wound. This started in the 70's i believe for the following reasons. If you kill one man out of fifty with one bullet there are 49 men left to kill. If you wound a man it takes at least one to see to the wounded. It's the same as the Russians idea to bomb every RAF camp in England years back with Hallucinogenics. Look it up and you should be able to find some info about it. Their reasoning was the same... to 'wound'. In other words occupy others to make their own forces jobs easier.
  10. A company related to BAE. As like all bullets are designed a 9mm is designed to wound. Unless hit straight in the head at 40 yards you will just be 'wounded'. Theres a reason they practice shooting their 9mm's at 15yards. 9mm is a very slow bullet in comparison to most others, it doesnt even reach the speed of sound but like you say its still a lump of lead being launched at you! People have said that you can be killed at 100yards with a 9mm...? It's just not true. They did field tests and they bounced of combat jackets you buy in the shop at 100yards. In saying this my verdict is still get out the way!
  11. Hey MattyH. How much for just the gun + magazine(s?) Thanks
  12. ^^^ not from your average pistol. A friend of mine works on designs of new weapons for the army and they gave up on 9mm for that very reason. It was ruled 'in-effective' which i think is probably not quite true eh! im sure 50+% of the shots did some real damage but then again theres the rest which didnt. They moved on to the electric gun afterwards which is almost finished now. A hand held (manuverable) assault rifle accurate at 1km (almost). Wouldn't mind one myself eh!
  13. referring to wookies comment... Its true. At 40 yards with thick (generous of course) clothing a 9mm has as much a chance of killing you as it does to bounce off you. The trajectory is retarded and the effective range is pretty useless for anything other than close range defence, hence why the police use them. Dispatching would be good though.
  14. Axe basically stole my idea. Cheeky begger! :-p
  15. Well they should blend the ideas mentioned. Upon purchasing an air gun you should have to take a compulsary briefing/training. So basically a day at a local range with someone to show you all the neccesaries such as penetration, velocity, handling (safety and precautions) and also have made aware the consiquences of missuse. Could be effective?
  16. I like your thinking AirAssasin! I don't think it'll happen for years if ever but it's one of those ideas that should happen.
  17. Good responses guys. I was very lucky in that my school had its own shooting range using .22 rimfires and anyone who wanted to shoot was tought gun safety from the age of 11. This has proven its use in that not one single pupil in the whole history of having rifles has ever been in trouble or had anything negative happen regarding air or firearms weapons. It's a shame not everyone is given access to these facilities.
  18. got any pictures? also will you post? Thanks
  19. Im after your opinions. Do you think there should be further checks into airgun owners to check the home situations (any problems within family or history that kind of thing) and the people who own them. All the problems that we hear about in the news are usually stupid accidents or caused by people who shouldn't be allowed airguns in the first place. I dont want more rules but maybe routine checks might be worthwhile. Even if i hate it ... if it cuts down stupid peoples accidents and helps redeem respect for airgunners then im all up for it!
  20. done and its quite worryingly close but a higher % of no's at the moment thankfully.
  21. i want to know if she's single as well. Im finding it hard to stretch £400 at the moment
  22. Thanks for your replies everyone. I've got hold of a few pellets to try for when i get my Air Arms (probably a while though) so thanks to all for your help!
  23. First of all.... Where do you all get your pellets and for what prices? My local shop only sells basic pellets (SMK, Milbro TR's and those rubbish Napier rip offs) but i want more Accupells and then Air Arms Field pellets to try! Only problem i dont want to spend £12 on ebay for a tin of pellets my rifle hates and then have them sit there rotting (figure of speech). Also the big question is... I know most favour the S410 over the S400 or S200 but i cant stretch my cash enough and i can't justify paying over £100 more than the S400 for having the muti-shot facility when what i've heard is the S200 is pellet on pellet accurate at 30 yards AND is 10 shot convertable! What would you guys do? And does anyone have experience with all 3 rifles in both .22 and .177 calibers? Which did you prefer (gun and calibers) etc? I've always been a big .22 fan but have never actually tried .177. It's the trajectory that tempts me. Thanks very much guys, help is most definitely appreciated! Lewis
  24. Sad to say it but im selling my Palm Bay Typhoon-S electric guitar! It's in white with a few dings on it but nothin major.
