  1. you need to check with the authorites of the country you are going to whether you need a letter of invitation to hunt ,I.E, from shoot / hunt tour operater, otherwise you may not be allowed to take your firearm in the country, this is a common practice in europe. I have just appiled for one for sweden and it needs to be registed with them at least 4 weeks before you fly.

  2. if you look on the map showing areas where reds and greys are ,it shows an area on the west coast between wokington and egremont that dont contain either, this is incorrect as we have many red squirrels and increasing numbers of greys , there are even red squirrels in whitehaven town centre, don't know where they get they info from ??

  3. is it a .17 rem and are they homeloads :good:? my .17 rem used to do the same until I started limiting the amount of times I reloaded them, kept to 3 reloads and seems to work, being very small cases they dont seem to resize as often as the larger stuff, the brass seems to harden quicker and therefore crack

if it was a factory load then it could have been a faulty case, although I have not seen this myself on new brass.

  4. I work at sellafield and it has naff all to do with any reactor ,considering there are no live reators on site,

the problem was connected to the high level waste storage tanks which sellafield has 21 of, these must be cooled 24/7 to prevent heat build up, if for some reason cooling water is lost , then there are several backup systems in place ,the main system failed so the backup took several hours for it to kick in , this is quite normal ,typical media scaremongering, p. s they use fresh water to cool the tanks from wastwater lake so no seaweed problem :D

  6. you can buy what they call 'session beers' from the super market (about 3% alcohol) anything stronger you have to go to a 'special' shop

    procedure as follows}

    ring bell

    monitored by cctv

door unlocks only if you look civilised

look through glass cases at all the whiskey , gin ,vodka etc

stare in amazement at the prices (£25 for 1 litre bottle of whiskey )

go to counter and pay out large amounts of krona

assistant goes through another locked door to bring you your treasure

assistant asks if you want your booty wrapped up in case any people see you exiting shop and treat you like a social outcast.

to put it in perpective, ,out in the real world in sweden its not a problem walking around with knives and guns or shooting over the main road, you are obliged to stop and pull the car over to the side of the road if a moose hunt is in progress and one breaks out a cross the road, the hunters take presidence, top country really.

  7. oslos ok but then another 8 hours drive north,

you can shoot more than 1 moose a day ,depends on what area you are in and what the quota has been set for in that region.last year we had a quota for 1 mature bull , 2 immature bulls, 5 cows and 3 calfs, on a 30.000 acre area,.as you can imagine when a 1 ton moose is running through the forest at 200 yards it can get a bit confusing.

you are only allowed to shoot the cows with 1 calf at foot if she has two you must leave her, last season we got all of our quota within 1 week of the season starting except 1 young bull which the resident swedish hunters managed to get several weeks later,

  8. I have been offered a hunting lease in sweden for moose / bear and caper and although this is quite cheap I can't find any cheap ferries or airlines that will take firearms.

ryanair fly to stokholm but won't take guns

    easyjet don't fly there

cheapest ferry £650 from newcastle to denmark then another ferry from denmark to sweden then 800 mile trip by car :good:

direct ferries to sweden / norway stopped in sept.

am I up the creek, don't want to lose this as its a great place to hunt. :D:/

    all thoughts gratefully received.

  9. most people must a bit of hazel, grows nice and straight and easy to find ,bendy with a bit of give in it ,three quarters to an inch is about the right thickness, blackthorn can be nice if its polished up, hard to find a long enough straight bit though, a bit of 20 mm copper tube on the end makes a cheap ferrule
