I bought a second hand M2 a couple of years ago. Its never failed to cycle on anything, I do suspect the previous owner had put a fair amount of cartridges through it in the past though. Its well worn in.

I had a Stoeger M2000 years ago - absolute scrap. Just shows, sometimes you get a good one.

It did again yesterday using the same hull 32 g steel twice in 38 shots. It still looks brand new , you cannot see any signs of wear on it, not had chance to try any other cartridges yet.

Can I suggest something before you start taking parts out or contacting GMK with issues. Try some Italian cartridges, 3 or 4 boxes of RC or Fiocchi (but preferably RC).

There is something about Gamebore and Hull cartridges that just don’t work in Benellis (certainly in the 4 I have owned). Personally I think it is something to to with the plastic compound or size of the case. It causes shells to ‘hang’ in the chamber after firing a bit too long and this is VERY unhelpful for an inertia operated system.

If you still get the problem with the RCs then I would suggest it is as suggested above a mag release gate issue. If not your gun is just another one that is sensitive to shells. For your info this is from using them in PSG where you fire a LOT so shells in rapid succession and system failure isn’t really an option.

Have you got a local stockists of RCs , I,m not to far from Lincoln, I use Hull because they have been working out the cheapest around me. By the time you put delivery on I can usually pick them up cheaper than justcartridges

It’ll be the cartridge latch that releases the carts from the magazine.

It’ll need tweaking outward (away from the receiver wall) so that it holds the carts in the magazine.

Due to stiff loadingin the M2, a lot of people tweak the latch to make inserting carts into the magazine easier as from the factory they can be stiff to load. If you tweak em too far it’ll release carts at the wrong time or too many at once.

    ask me how i know.........

That sounds like it could be it, just thought on, when collecting the empties found one with a small rip in the brass rim.

What was your gun mounting like when you took these few shots that caused the problem? Might sound a daft question, but recoil operated systems like the Benelli require a certain amount of resistance to the recoil of the gun provided by the shooter. If due to the shot, the butt was not resting in your shoulder then it could be the problem.

To be honest I don't know, 99% of my shooting is from the hide, up at last second & shoot, can,t give you a definite answer to that one

  5. Hello all

I recently bought a second hand Benelli M2 comfortech 26 inch in camo which was from a private seller who came over as a very genuine guy, he bought the gun in January this year from a gun shop which had took it in part exchange. The gun is spotless in as new condition with no signs of wear, case chokes etc 3 of the chokes had never been used, all in all I am very pleased with it. I have used it on 4 outings on pigeon firing approximately 250 Hull 32 gram steel game cartridges total. On 2 separate days probably after about 30 shots with the gun fully loaded, fired the first shot, cartridge ejected, second cart self loaded into the breech, but the 3rd cart released from the magazine and sat in the carrier. I unloaded the gun then reloaded working perfect again, have any of you come across this before. As I say it's not a recurring problem, I have not tried any other cartridges as I have only got steel as I have no market for lead shot pigeons. Paul

  6. Been out with the combine for the last 3 weeks stood at the end of the rows for the rabbits, not been a very good year for them with the fields that usually produce decent numbers only holding a few, long days. Half this field was cut Saturday and there were a good number of pigeon in the area, I went for a look last Sunday and decided to set up ended up with 32 picked. Field finished mid week and a flock of at least 2000 moved into the roost across the road. Got there yesterday for first light set up with whirly and 6 breasted pigeon on a hedgerow next to the corner of the wood, the field behind that was maize last year is in with carrots and they machines were covering them with straw for the winter. Loads of pigeon coming to the wood to high to shoot. In the first hour I had only managed 7 birds and then it went dead. By 12 o'clock had 25 out as decoys, birds still not committng so set another whirly up level with the first 20 yds apart. This is the first time I have done this, read plenty on here about it, but I only added another one to my kit this year. About 1 ish started getting birds coming in suicidal had loads of doubles and more shot the first and missed the second, it finished at half past 2,  watched flock after flock from 100 to 300 strong heading back to the roost sky high, don' know we'e they had been feeding all day but you would have needed an anti aircraft gun. Walked the wood out and picked up 90 on the day all woodies. Shot with steel for the hawk man. This is the same field I shot a good number on last year. Counted empties when I got home 141.

Been keeping an eye on the maize stubble I was shooting up till Christmas, plenty of pigeon though well flocked up and still skittish, went on Sunday set up with the whirly and 10 shells in my usual place for 08.30. First pigeon decoyed straight away then had a mad 10 mins with birds coming from every direction, things settled down and they just circled the area in large bunches with the odd ones decoying or coming near enough for a shot. A gas gun has been set up on the neighbours farm about half a mile away, I have never heard one as loud it was keeping the birds in the air at great height, when it went off you could see them jink in flight and rapidly gain height, but they hung around the area all day, shot my last bird at 14.30 after walking out the wood finished up with 68 picked up. Still plenty of cobs on top so hopefully will give them another go next week

  8. Thanks for the comments gents, I've shot this land for years now and had some good bags over the years. We're I've been setting up is on the main flightline out of the roost woods which is a massive block of pine and birch, as I've mentioned in previous posts they flight to a small wood in the middle of this block and will quite happily sit there all day. When they flight over the wood to feed elsewere they tend to come back on any one of 3 flightlines this corner of the wood is were they all converge, I set up on the hedgerow about 20 yds from the wood, either side depending on the wind direction, had some quality shooting as they come over the wood. Over the last few years when this has been in with maize it usually shoots well for the first couple of days then bags have averaged around the 30 mark and they tend to dissappear after a few week, this year there has been a massive influx of pigeon in the area, how long they will stay who knows.

  9. Tried another maize stubble Sunday no birds came, so walked across the fields to the one I've been shooting for the last couple of weeks, they were on it in big numbers again. It was 11 o'clock by then so left them to it, as I knew I could get my last full day in before Christmas on Tuesday this week. Got to field and set up in the same place for first light, had birds in and committing for the first hour then lulls and bunches coming on and off all day. Shot last bird at 3 o'clock, picked up 84 woodies, that's it now till after Christmas all the best

  10. It would be nice to know all of these birds have gone into the food chain somehow, but whatever you have had a serious good run on the pigeons.

We shoot with steel and supply a local falcon breeder, he will take as many as possible, even a few odd ones from fighting go for dog food, never wasted anything over the years

  11. There will be even more days on those fields when the fields are ploughed.

By the way, I'm not jealous. OK yes I'm jealous.

They usually do the liquid fertiliser injection I think it's fruit based, this can take weeks but this year don't think there doing this block, there is a block of rape that they have started to have a go at mainly along the edge of a tree line it's well away but you can see were they have started
  12. Are they breeding on the maize?? Well done its one of those " Fill youre Boots Times " it may never happen again , so well done and keep at it . Are you on your second freezer now?

Still loads in the area, while ever they will decoy I'll have a go when I get chance, dropped lucky with end of year holidays and had a spare day last week, I have shot with steel for the last 10 years as we supply a big scale falcon breeder, they all go fresh my brother will drop these in the morning, I am going tomorrow on a field qurter of a mile away loads fighting that way today,

  13. how many is that now off that field lol

its unreal how they just keep coming back there after being shot at so heavily

It's 5 fields in a block with a 3 Acre wood in the middle, they don't roost in the wood it's to cold, but use it as a sitting wood. One field was cut early November as it was a different strain of maize had 2 three hour sessions and 1 full day for bags of 33, 34, 55 the rest was finished end of month, first day shot was 4th December bags of 105, 114, 62, 77, 77, to date. 3 fields are going in with carrots next year so hopefully they won't get ploughed to early , every year we always get a lot of pigeon when the Maize is cut this year there's been tons.
  14. Or more like....Ground Hog Day.

Never known anything like it mate, there's that many in the area the fields still got loads of cobs left on the top, I could see them going to another field about quarter of a mile away in big numbers, but they still drifted back to the wood. All being well going to try the other field tomorrow.
