  1. It's happening in the prison service too , totally changed from when I joined in 1987 , UK Poacher I know exactly what you are saying :good:

    Hi unclemickey

Last time we spoke i had just over a year to go i spoke too soon i have been off sick since november with a knackered heart now on umpteen pills a day and a resting heart rate of 110 beats a minute, probably not enough time left for them to sack me through medical innefficiency. If i make december i will retire with about 11500 a year pension but how long will i live to collect it.Retirement age for a new entrant prison officer is now 65 how many of them will make it to 65 not many is my guess, can you imagine what it would be like rolling round the floor fighting a young fit 20 something when you are an old man of 65.God help them.

    Geordie

Sorry didn't mean i was going to die before december just meant i can retire in december

  2. No geordie, there are so few rabbits on my permitions even with the HMR last week we struggled to get 2 in the bag ! And yes I am able shoot sufficiently well as iv had a pb bag of 51 before, they simply arnt there and in the past the farmer has never been bothered about them either so am not doing anything wrong or upsetting anyone ! If i was asked to shoot em all on the spot so to speak then I would happily do that also but if I can do it and make myself a little sport and a few pennys to cover my ammo costs then whats wrong with that !

    Hi Matt

Nothing wrong with it just some farmers around here would do their nuts if they thought you were trying to increase the numbers of pests on the ground,i shoot on a chicken farm with 8000 free range chickens and the only good fox is a dead fox whether they are feeding young or not. 5 rabbits will eat as much grass as a sheep so their attitude is get shot of them good luck and good shooting

  3. Ive never activley gone out looking for charlie, the few I have shot have been 50yard opertunity shots with my HMR when bunny bashing !

Ive picked up a new permition that has plenty of pigeon but few rabbits but seem to be a few fox about.

So I want to thin out the fox poplulation with a view to increasing bunny numbers for my shooting and also to consider putting a few birds down on !

So I have a lamp, sticks, HMR, Bino`s, Jimny vehicle a fox call uk manual caller and have down loaded some rabbit noises from the varmint al website.

So how would you serious foxers go about reducing the numbers ?

I cant decide if i should walk out and lay down with the HMR on my bi pod and try calling or weather to shoot from the vehicle wing mirror with the HMR and put the calls onto a CD and play them through the car speaker to call charlie in !

Or should i keep mobile and shoot off the sticks or wing mirror as I drive ?

Iv tryed using my fox call before on the odd oppertunity shot and had mixed results !

I will need to get them into 50 - 80 yards as I am using a HMR :good:

    Cheers

    Matt :good:

    HiMatt

Are you not there to carry out pest and vermin control, if i was the farmer and i found out you were trying to increase rabbit numbers to improve your sport i would soon tell you to sling your hook and get someone in to do the job properly

  5. I have never come across a "open" or "closed" ticket but there seems to be alot of talk on here about it. I am just wondering what it takes to get an open ticket. Just on my license i have my vermin rifles are to use on permission where i have lawfull permission to shoot. Do you automatialy get one after 5 year of holding a license?

    Hi Sm0kah

What you have is an open ticket

  6. I have had an eye on the 3 door 1.6 but worried that it is quite a small engine for quite a heavy car.

Do you find it has enough performance? Are you comfortable overtaking in it?

    Cheers

    Ian

    Hi All

Had mine nearly 9 years now has never let me down and i have not looked after it, been serviced about 3-4 times and it just keeps going it gets cleaned every february after the shootin season(whether it needs it or not) i also use it for lamping and quite often tow an ifor williams gd 84 with a quad on overtaking no problems but not a GTI

  7. I am not big on Champagne but I really love the Cheap Martini Asti stuff you can get (not sure if that is even classed as wine) however I used to work as a bar manager and have tried a fair few and in my opinion the less it cost the better it tasted, with Cristal being bottom on taste-o-meter. From what I remember Verve and Bollinger wasn't to bad and I am sure one of them was meant to have a chocolate tinge to it.

But all in all if it has to have bubbles it would have to be the Asti for taste (I may just be more common then I like to admit). Otherwise I will stick to the hard stuff :)

    Hi All

Along with XD2 you can't beat a nice pint of Asti Spumante but my mrs says i am a heathen who knocks it back like a beer

  9. Hi All

When i was a young squaddie in germany back in 1975 i won a renault 10 in a game of poker. After the bar shut 6 of us decided to head off down town a few miles away, all of us p*ssed as rats.We couldn't get a taxi so we decided we were going in my new car.No insurance nothing we aquired some petrol from a nearby truck filled up and off we went, half way to town i put it through a hedge into a field of strawberries.we then stopped a taxi and paid him a fair old wedge to carry six of us into town in one hit.Next day military police and german police turned up and dragged me out of bed after being told how i had won the car, i of course denied all knowledge and they couldn't prove anything so i got away with that one

  10. No it wont need re-proving, it will already carry a proof mark from its previuos application.

When you buy an additional barrel for a Blaser, Sako Quad or other rifle with interchangeable barrel system they do not need to be proved when you fit a different barrel to your rifle

However fitting this barrel will have other issues that must be addressed.

Are you going to fit the barrel yourself?

If so you must use correct headspace gauges to set the headspace to within the limits, you might find that after tightening the barrel into place that it is out of tolerence and will have to be adjusted.

This will have to be done in a lathe so that correct headspace can be achieved.

Once fitted you do not need to have proof for your own use.

Re-proving the rifle before sale is a grey area as many will say that the integrity of the barrel has not been compromised by the alteration to adjust headspace.

If you are not sure when you come to sell the rifle then get it proved.

    Ian.

    Hi All

I was just going to say most of that

    Geordie

  11. Just got back from buying a new sound mod and the guy in the shop was adamant that a change of barrel on a rifle requires a proofhouse stamp.

I've got a new one enroute and I'm sure that the process of swapping a Remington 700 barrel for an identical (but fluted) Remington 700 barrel would not need proofing.

    Anyone know?'

Hi Billy where is the new barrel coming from, if it is coming from the US it would probably need proofing if you sold the rifle. You do not need proof if you are using it yourself.I have a remington which i brought in from the states and it has never been proofed at all

  12. Please allow me to state the following points!

I'm not an active member of the resistance even though I do watch and enjoy "Ello Ello" on Sky GOLD, (does that count?)

I always stand up for the National Anthem!

I do not support Bristol Rovers!

I have never intentionally shot and killed any innocent animal - They are all guilty of something as far as I am concerned!

I am most definitely not paranoid and I do not have an over active imagination - I know for certain and without the slightest of doubt that "The Truth Is Out There" and that because of that they are going to try to hush me up!

I have found an old chewed up piece of chewing gum stuck to my desk near the phone, should I check that in case it is a bug in disguise?

It's only my wife that I have heard accusing me of being a trouble maker and an antagonist (Usually when I break wind in bed and hold her head under the duvet).

I've have had to take positive and agressive action so I have spoken to Sky (My phone providers) and they have confirmed that it is not my imagination, there is definitely something in the form of an unusual tone on my phone, and they have admitted to me what it is:

  13. Some of my mates have been trained in identification of Pittbull terriers. They will act on anonymous reports, sightings or intelligence. When they seize them they usually give the owners the chance of disclaiming them and not get prosecuted or seizing them and getting nicked. Either way the dogs once confirmed that they are pittbull types will be destroyed.

This is not make believe. I know what I am on about and it does not matter what random story happened to your friend this is what we do.

    Hi Mate

So you are trying to tell me that your mates will turn out 100% of the time on an anonymous report that someone has a pitbull type dog, you can't be police then, you must be RSPCA because the police don't turn out for 100% of burglaries robberies thefts and car break ins.

    Geordie

  14. Danimal, let me know where the pit bulls are and me and my collegues will pop round, seize the dog and have it destroyed.

There is no excuse for owning a pit bull and the only people who seem to own them are chavs who think they are a status symbol.

    Hi Dirtyharry

Don't make me laugh my mate had his dog stolen by some ****** it was reported to the police and they said they couldn't do anything without evidence when he said he had seen it they were still not interested. Stick to what you lot are good at,harrasing motorists or arresting people who throw snowballs at plastic policepersons

    Geordie

Ps i am assuming you are police and not RSPCA not that there is a lot of difference these days
