  1. Mine is no oil painting but it's been a lot of fun so far. It's a 'field grade' gun but pretty tidy. I like the simplicity of it and the bombproof sliding receiver set-up is very confidence - inspiring. I shot my first woodland red in January, if I'd used this I would have been one happy chap, as it was I was still developing a load for it so the 6.5mm did the deed (still very happy tho) I particularly wanted this combination as its suitable for all European big game.                                    I can use it at the range or in the field, my ideal scenario would be a roe doe and a woodcock......next year now😁

I'm thinking about getting a combination gun in 12G/.308 cal or similar.(30-30, 30-06) Specifically BRNO Combo.

To be used for rough shooting and occasional woodland deer, roe + fallow sub 100m.

    Update;

After trawling the internet for months I put a cheeky bid in november (Holts sealed bid auction) on a Finn Classic 512sc .308/12g combination gun and got lucky.                                  Conditioned for AOLQ and solid slug😁  It came with flip up sight + QD mount.      I've put a 1.5 - 5 x 32 scope on it with ill. circle/dot reticule.                                   I've had it a couple of months now and really like it. Fairly weighty at 9 1/2lbs scoped but that does help with recoil management. Shoots well with my.308 reloads(1.5" groups @ 100) have also shot homeloaded subsonic .308 at my local club range with success, accurate, no recoil and soo quiet!

12g Solid slugs on order for reloading so all good. Got a .308 bullet mould too to play with.

  3. Solo stalking at the weekend I saw 20+ woodcock flushed, some at a fair distance.(no dog) the whole wood floor was spotted with woodcock poo just showing how many and how busy they are at night. Finished off the day with a walk round with shotgun, put another three up, had one shot and missed🙄 swung the gun on tawny owl that exploded from head high holly but checked myself in good time.

Came home empty handed but happy.

I always like to see them, such an enigmatic bird, stunning in the hand and on the plate.

Im happy to limit myself to 1 per season.

From what I have seen I think numbers are very healthy and have no compunction in taking one for the table.

Agree that £10/bird is not good for conservation tho.

Looks very much like a Remington 3200 kreighoff style gun with the same action and lock up and free floating barrels.

If your not shooting moving targets a scope is fine.

For stalking in woods and moving shotgun qaurry open sight's I think are the way to go.

Have you punched paper to find it's poi ?

Zero'd today, so good to go👍

Certainly seems strongly built with a kind of shrouded receiver, very confidence inspiring!

I used the shotgun on clays in week using the scope on 1.5x and was hitting a few, had a 'hopeful' shot at a woodcock this am.

Just need to christen it properly,

    "who dares wins rodeney!".......

    Brilliant! Such a useful gun.

I've always wanted a 16 bore/7x57 drilling, but it would be heavier than a double barrel

    Yes, drilling, 3 pipes

    Combi gun, 2 pipes

Kipplauf, 1 pipe (nice and light)

Found out that mine originally had various barrels supplied so may look out for shotgun barrels, you can also get a 12g barrel liner to convert to a .308 double rifle!😎

    Need to research that.

Is the selector on the safety catch?

A: yes, it's a very positive click. Just keep one barrel empty depending on what you're after.

Do you have to have a Shotgun certificate as well?

    A: No. It's got 23"barrels, section 1, conditioned for slug/a.o.l.q.too.😎

I'm coterminous anyway but it's on my fac.

    What' the comparative recoil like?

A: fine, not much difference with 28gm shells, gun weighs over 9lb so plenty there to absorb recoil. I don't notice it when hunting anyway, did think about replacing pad but it doesn't need it. You wouldnt want to shoot clays all day tho😖

will you have to change your stance or mount between barrels?

    A: No.

I've probably got a few more questions .......

    Fire away...👌

Its a difficult subject and it wouldn't be clear even if you had dispatch on your certificate. Discharging a firearm on (or beside) a public highway is specifically illegal, people might argue special circumstances and that might well be accepted.

In general I would avoid putting myself in a position where I might end up being interviewed by the boys in blue over a well intentioned good deed.

+1 👍You could ring police to get an incident no, and ask for them to attend. Not ideal but you need to consider worse case scenario. I'm with Vince on this, it's a minefield.

That sounds about right (70kg) for the age and time of year.. Over the years ive seen some very over exaggerated guesstimates from the self proclaimed semi pro`s believe me.

Staggies in there second year like yours vary quite a lot in larder weight, anything from and between 60kg-87kg.

Crikes! That is a lot of venison......

Don't see any point in exaggeration really, only cheating yourself and its easy to look a fool. You can see why people poach deer.
