  1. Yeah, it is a bit of a long way, but I didn't travel only for that round. Still, there's a high "risk" that next time I'll do just that Well...the dirty little secret is that I don't get to do that much at home, mate -- that, and are under rather strict regulations from the "authorities that be" So, guess why I'm like a kid in the candy store when I get a juicy steak sandwich when I'm left out to play with the other boys Cheers, Florian
  2. well, there's plenty of sheep around...And when they run out of sheep bullocks then they can have "another incentive" to get ppl shoot above a certain min score (hint: all shooters that shoot below 80 get the snip). And yes, thanks for a nice mental image of the raw material for the "steak and kidney" pie (or smth) And, belive it or not, I promised Mr. B no less than two steak sandwiches next time we meet. And yes, I do think they're good (minus the bullocks...) Cheers ! Florian
  3. Now, I know this is gooing to be a bit cheesy waving my wet knickers "in public" (i.e. posting it as a open topic instead as sending individual PMs) but ....well, you'll just have to excuse the foreigner Just wanted to say thanks to all the "PeeWees" that I met on Sunday at Llandegla (or should it be "Fauxdegla" now...) for a great day. Thanks Chard, Anni and Whiskymac ....and "to some extent" to Mr. Big B himself who organized the get-together _and_ won the shoot (at twice the score of the squad idiot... ) Anyway, thanks for a nice day, great to meet you all IRL and hope to see you all again soon Tada, Florian
  4. Hello all, I was wondering if there are somewhere more extensive results from 2010 World Sporting Championships @ Lakenheath (more than "Ben H is the World Champion", that is). Did anyone shoot there and care to share some thoughts about how was it ? Thanks in advance, Florian
  5. I agree with what others already have mentioned -- there's an upper limit on how many cartridges one can (usefully) shoot in a day disregarding how well the gun fits and what type of cartridges one shoots. In my case my sheer ability to _intently_focus_ on targets start going downhill after exceeding 300 cartridges or so in a single day (i.e. with only short breaks). Is not that I cannot shoot after that, it's just that the benefit of "just plugging away" at targets starts decreasing steadily after that. It can be quite noticeable (and frustrating) but when that starts to happen I know I need to put the gun down. And "getting a target" doesn't need to take 50 shells. If I get it, I get it after a few shots -- maybe a dozen. If I don't, I don't and I either do something different, get help (usually both...) -- or move on. But again, that's just me...
  6. Nr 14 after two days of shooting, 9 birds behind the HOA (the bigman himself).
  7. Common Brian, you know you can do better Just relax and focus on that bleeding front edge Catch you later in the weekend, really curious to hear how it was like (really wish I was there, even if I would surely have turned into a doormat already by the end of the first course ).
  8. Thanks, I'm few miles away from Wortly (in Barnsley...) but don't have the time during the week 'cause of work....Truely a pity since the area is very, very beautiful and I can bet money there are _loads_ of hunting one can do around here -- all whilke I'm stuck in windowless conference rooms shouting at table phones and staring at computer screens with other lunatics like me. On the other hand, tomorrow is Friday And there's a certain person that agreed to do some shooting with me on Saturday at a shooting ground in NE Wales :o :o :o Cheers everyone, and have fun shooting in the lovely weather !!!
  9. Hello all, I'll be next week in the Sheffield area and I was wondering if anyone can suggest some good sporting grounds there (ideally West of Sheffield -- (south) of Manchester would be equally fine). Thanks in advance, Florian
  10. Chard, I sincerely appologize if this came out the wrong way (english is not my native language) but it wasn't my intention -- in any way, shape or form -- to be sarcastic or put down anybody. Again, I'm terribly sorry if it came out that way and but instead want to thank everyone for their advice and oppinions.
  11. Well, call me old-fashioned (or even an idiot), but I wanted to find a good (or, in this case, extremely good) coach and then stick with him for some time... You know, coach in the traditional sense? (The fact that I'm shooting like an idiot negates the need of any "continuity" in my instruction is a whole different matter ) Well, in that case Carl must be coaching by laying in a sun chair with a beer on his hand :o 'cause I had a lesson with Steve and I never ever met a more relaxed, easy-to-talk to, down to earth bloke on a shooting ground. The ease with which he made me hit targets I would normally just shake my head at was just amazing -- the expression on my face "How the !"#¤!% did I hit that ?" and his response, with a smiling nod "well, just do it again exactly in the same way" was nothing short of a comedy. All in all Steve was the best instructor I ever met, period. I will definitively go back there (yes, I already booked the next lesson with him) Thanks all, Florian
  12. WoW, there's quite an endorsement, especially coming from someone well-regarded as a coach himself. Ok, ok... I pull my nose out Thanks for the tip, Florian
  13. Hello all, I would like to hear from those that had the chance to take lessons with both of these two (apparently excellent) coaches. What I am interested in is differences in coaching styles, approaches, preferences / inclinations -- things of this sort. If you don't want to make this public, use PM instead. The reason for my question is that I'm trying to figure out which one of them will be a better match for my own preferences / style (if it matters to begin with...) Thanks in advance for all help and advice.
  14. 2nd (or is this 3rd ?) that. A "personal twist" (?) is that I usually do this when it's dark (the kids went to sleep and house quiets down) with a flash light inserted into the barrel. Focusing the beam makes the spot on the wall not larger than a plate, and also the darkness helps me not to see the bead but focus on the beam (or, better yet, a spot on the front edge of that) -- or at least so I'm telling myself. Also, I do this for both horizontal (ceiling meets wall) and vertical (wall meets wall) lines -- but not during same evening / session. Works for me, at least.
  15. Sorry for the late post in this thread but another name that was mentioned in the past in similar threads is CARL BLOXHAM. I haven't (yet) had a lesson with Carl, but from what I gather he has the creds as both a shooter and coach (two completely different things).
