Perhaps the most sensible idea yet!! I always put deer gralloch in the same place, within rifle shot of a high seat and shoot foxes over it, so I suppose corvids and smelly dead pigeons, which have outlived their use as decoys, would suit the same purpose. So the answer is to make a stink pit, provided the landowner knows about it.

Just bought a Bettinsoli Diamond as a mate for my Miroku and would like some info on the multichoke markings. The gun came with 5 chokes but I`m not sure of the markings, plus one choke has no markings and one of the choke containers has Armi Beretta marked on it.
As we all know these containers get mixed up so I`m wondering if the choke with no markings is the Beretta, and why no markings? I suppose I could get my local gunshop to measure them but I know you forum experts can help.

I ALWAYS make it clear when asking for permission that I use biodegradeable fibre wads.

Glad you are getting more outright kills with Eley HBs. I won`t be going to any other cartridges in the near future because these Eleys do it right and shoot sweet at the same time. Who needs high velocity anyway???

I`ve seen one or two posts where buzzards are being blamed for pigeons deserting the area or not coming in to decoys. In some areas it`s an unusual day when I don`t see one or more buzzards and it doesn`t seem to bother the pigeons at all. I`m sure some see my decoys, which are dead birds, but they don`t take any notice of them.

Two of my farmers have told me they are coming out of oilseed rape for the medium to long term. One said the reason was the Single Farm Payment and the low market price. The other said his spraying inputs are about £60 at the moment but would only be about £3 if he was allowed to grow genetically modified rape. Both farmers grow in excess of 130 acres of OSR each so I suppose pigeon decoying will be a bit thin on their land over the winter period.
I`d like to know what the situation is regarding OSR nationally as my other farms are continuing to grow rape as usual.

I paid £107 per thousand so now you`ll choke me off and say you paid less!!

That`s what I found with the Eleys. I was a bit cautious at first because of the slightly smaller shot but they do the business and are sweeter shooting. I was so convinced that I bought 2,000!!

I used to use Lyalvale Express Pigeon Special in 30g and Special Game in 32g. I now use Eley HB 32g. The Lyalvale were high velocity 6 shot but I found the Eley in 61/2 shot to be softer shooting with great results. I`m sticking with Eley from now on.

You`re going to need glasses!!

Don`t forget Army surplus stores for camo netting, clothing, bags etc. etc.

Oh! silly me. I thought we were talking about shooting pigeons? I was just making the point that it doesn`t matter what the crops, wind or weather are if there aren`t any birds. The one piece of information you need when decoying comes from the birds and the guns who are the most successful at decoying are those who watch bird movements all the time.
PROPER RECONNAISSANCE IS NEVER WASTED. Even if you go out with a vehicle full of kit, and the pigeons are not there, time spent with binoculars is time well spent.
-
Lurcherboy you forgot to mention the birds!!! WATCH THE BIRDS!!! Without birds you don`t have a decoying opportunity. If you want to shoot `em you`ve got to watch `em!!

If you go metal detecting with your Toetectors on stop digging at three feet!!

Marinate some crows in special virgin olive oil, peppers, salt, paprika, and garlic. Keep refrigerated for 48 hours in a plastic container. When you are ready to prepare your meal throw the contents into the bin and eat the plastic container!!

Re Clay Wacker. Should there be an N in there??

Apbuild, now that you`ve met Wacker perhaps you will have the name of your new BOYFRIEND daubed down your barrels??

Cranfield, You know what I mean, education`s got nothing to do with it!! Is faggotry something of which you have knowledge?? Methinks he doth protest too much.
Big Red Fox, I`m OK mate. Keep walking or I`ll bump into you.
-
With a name like PECK you`d think he would know the difference between a rook and a crow!!
-
Big Red Fox, I wonder if he can spell drivel??? I`M BACK!!!
Take the R out of drivel and you get DEVIL!!
I wonder how Cranfield knows there are two Gs in faggot??
Seriously though you can get some big bags of pigeons during the winter but with so much OSR about it`s catch -as- catch -can. Pigeons in my area are STILL eating the regrown rape on harvested OSR fields, so it`s a good draw at any time. They aren`t dropping into the dense areas, probably because it`s a bit wet, but they`re looking for patches of dense rape in areas of sparse regrowth.
Personally I`m waiting for the beans and lupins to come off. Also shooting a few on or near muckheaps where they are drinking that dark brown water, Ugh!!

Didn`t say Jono said they were made of metal. :< You asked which metal they were made of, aluminium, steel or glass fibre. Glass fibre is not a metal hence my question.
Can`t help it if you use bad grammar Peck!! Perhaps you should have said which metal are they made of aluminium, steel, or (WERE THEY MADE OF) glass fibre.
PS As I was typing this you were editing the original post.

When you have a blank you`ll know!!!

Since when has glass fibre been a metal???

Harvest very quiet on my patch too. Cultivations following the combine have encouraged some rooks and jackdaws but the pigeons seem to be following wheat stubbles on other ground. A couple of days ago there were several pigeons on grass and also on bean stubble. The clover silage has just been cut for the third time and I expect them to find that by tomorrow. If they want grass they`ll love clover (I hope!) Had some decent bags after the first two cuts.
The lupins are due to be cut at any time and that should be a draw, particularly as the lupin fields are close to pigeon backgrounds.
