  1. Hi there, looking for the above, aware they're rare but on the off chance! Thanks in advance.
  2. Out of interest did the sportsman 5 mag work in the supersport 5/century?! Thanks
  3. Hi V5uk, i'll take this if its still for sale!
  4. Hi there, I moved to stockbridge in hampshire about a year ago, I used to farm outdoor chickens and fallow deer in Devon so used to shoot a fair bit. I havent had the opportunity to shoot recently and just looking to get involved and help out with anything i can help with! I have dsc level 1, shotgun and open .243 and .17hmr. To offer, potentially some rabbits/pigeons on about 250 acres in surrey (rye at mo, family farm) but lots of public paths, and far away! Some foxing in devon!... If shooting available, can offer fencing skills too. Thanks a lot! Eric
  5. a friend of mine got 3 of my fallow deer hides tanned in somerset for about 30quid each. I think the place has closed down, but there are places about. Makes a great rug! It took about 2 months.
  6. Hi guys! anyone used 36g of sg's? I was given a few boxes of them, but never tried them! I just stick with 5's for everythin . Thanks
  7. At the moment we're losing ~ 200 chickens a cycle (2200 birds) to buzzards, this is much higher than usual. Most are taken at around 3-5 weeks old, maybe due to weather, but there are also a lot of rabbits about. Chickens are slow and stupid, and a scarecrow is helping, for now anyways. When do buzzards raise their chicks? spring? Will there be lots of fledging young now? Cheers, Eric
  8. How important is a level scope? I bought an hmr 2nd hand from a very experienced shot who set all his scopes up with a small spirit level on gun and on turret, to make sure its level. Then i got a gunshop to set another scope up, and he did it by eye and said thats how people do it. My question is how much does it matter if its a little off? Thanks, eric
  9. Ok, thanks for replies, I will call my feo when i have time tomorrow and let you know. fyi its Devon & Cornwall. Thanks again.
  10. Hi guys, just a little help, I'm sending the letter to police informing of aquiring firearm, but its was sent rfd - rfd. Do I write it as if i bought it from my rfd? or put down details of original seller? Thanks alot, Eric.
  11. Thanks, I did look there, however no filleting blades. I'l send them an email
  12. I am going to try to make a knife with an antler handle, but i quite fancy a fillet knife. Anyone know where i can buy a decent blade? Thanks. Eric
  13. thanks, seen a couple but a long way away from me, would prefer to find one closer!
  14. looking at cz .17 hmr, and open to ideas on .243 (ideally wood stock). thanks, Eric
  15. My FEO told me yesterday that a suitable mentor has to be 'experienced' with using centrefire rifles. and be this he meant held centrefire FAC for 5+ years. He said nothing about age. But this is a different county... hope this helps,
  16. Been reading some interesting stuff here! This incident really highlights how detached many people are from country life/farming etc. So many people I have met have very little clue about how their food is produced, its not surprising that they don't realize that in order to produce meat vermin control is vital (fox's, & competing grazers), and even vegetarians who eat cereals, veg etc. this need pest control to protect the crop, using guns! Its very frustrating, but education is definitely needed, i think it should be part of the curriculum in schools. I started farming after uni, and some people's ignorance never ceases to surprise me! I have SGC but just applied for FAC a week or so ago mainly to control the plague of foxes on the chicken farm where i currently work. On a side note, if they ban guns I suggest a pack of hounds for efficient fox control, we could follow them on...horseback? an idea.... Sorry for going off at a tangent!
  17. I was looking for some smallish strong feeders to feed grit to free range chickens in field houses. they would be alright, but i think im a bit far, down in devon
  18. Hi guys, sorry prob been asked before but couldnt find it. I am applying for FAC for 17hmr, 22lr, and 243 for fox and deer. My qu. is that i'm sure i will need a mentor for the 243, and my boss is happy to do it, but he shoots a 223 and 308, and is an experienced stalker. Can he mentor me? I'm working on a free range chicken farm, with organic fallow deer park so need to control vermin and fox for job, and potentially shoot deer, also might do some stalking in scotland, so opted for 243. So you would hope i should get them? fingers crossed. Thanks alot, Eric.
  19. ok this is interesting! I have a similar problem, i have just moved into a flat with a new job but all the walls are lagged and plastered (i think an old hay loft conversion) and the floors are completely covered in carpet and then nailed down mdf board. its going to be difficult to secure the cabinet without causing alot of damage! Below are stables, but these obviously dont lock up at night, i dont suppose you could fix it in there? Whats your thoughts? Thanks for help.
  20. before i go and buy one, thought i'd see if anyone was selling one. needs to fit rifles. Thanks.
  21. Great, thanks for the advice. I'm not sure on the lakes depth i need to pop a stick in the middle. it is spring water fed, but only a trickle, not much of a stream coming out. I will look into the environment agency rules/forms, and take some advice from a local fishery, excuse to get the rod out. I was hoping to stock browns as i think they are beautiful fish, however a bit pricier. I will keep an eye on the lake, and maybe dead bait it, see if any pike are about. what a chore! Thanks for the input, hopefully it will be a success and i'l be in heaven  I'l keep you posted
  22. Hi guys, I have the opportunity to stock a lake with trout where I've just started working as its not used at mo. I was just wondering what sort of price you would have to pay to stock it, what sort of number/age are generally stocked, and advice on other potential issues i may need to keep an eye on, i.e. predators, etc.? (someone said that the carp had been eaten by something a while ago!). Its a small ribbon lake probably 25 yards wide and 100 long, in devon. Also just above the lake there is a small 6x6m ish crystal clear pond (only 2 foot ish deep) fed by spring water, would this be handy for anything? thanks for any input. Eric.
  23. thanks alot for the input, i'll keep stabbing away at it
  24. I'm pretty sure it was fuel! would water going through block it up somehow?/totally ruin the engine!? as i never drained the fuel filter. cheers. maybe i should pump it through a bit! I haven't run it on anything but diesel. cheers mark
