  3. Hi All

I've bought a MEOPTA Meopro 4-12x50 to use with a Ruger 10/22 - I didn't consider any issues with parallax before I made this purchase, but now I'm wondering if I should swap this scope for something more suited to use at 22 LR ranges. Intended use is mainly for lamping at ranges between 40 to 70 yards with the magnification set between 4 - 6. Will a scope that is parallax free at 100 yards be any use at these ranges?

Any advice is much appreciated as I can still return this scope as it hasn't been mounted on the rifle yet.

    Thanks

    hi,

if i were you i would send it back and possibly go for a meopta fixed mag or at the most a 3-9x50 for the ranges you are looking to shoot at

  4. the best sticks you will ever come across are a set of fox banksticks they have a quick release tab on the pole so you can use them from laying down to standing in a seconds notice then all you need to do is drill them 150mm from the top and space them off and bolt them together or i make a machined spacer to fit exactly and two button screws at each end finish them nicely .a couple of legnths of 15mm foam and you will have a set of sticks for life .i find them more versitile than wooden ones because if you need to take a shot laying down or sat you can only use the wooden ones as a mono stick if they are bolted or roll the rubber down which takes longer to set up if you need pics i can put some up for you,atb wayne

  5. Having read a few articles it seems to be the general consensus that rimfire rifles only need a clean/pull through once in a while...

But, does this stand the same for moderators? Would there be an issue with chemical erosion in the mod and also the barrel end/screw thread?

I CLEAN MY HMR AND THE MOD AFTER EVERY OUTING AND YOUD BE AMAZED AT THE **** THAT COMES OUT OF THEM ESPECIALLY THE MOD,I WOULD RECOMMEND CLEANING EVERY TIME AND I ONLY CLEAN THE MOD IN SOAPY WATER AS FOR THE BARREL IF YOU PUT A DRY PATCH THROUGH AFTER IT SHOULD BE OKAY

  6. I use the standard sealed 12V lead acid batt. It fits easily in my jacket pocket,a Deerhunter Montanna, and doesn't seem too heavy. I shoot on foot, on a golf course, and have used the light on Air rifles and my .22lr. Works a treat. If there is one bugbear it is the fact that the batt lead that I have is just a standard wire. I believe you can get a sprung coiled cable for it. Just remember to unplug it if you put your rifle down to retrieve your kill. The joint will come apart of its own accord but don't depend on it doing so.

cheers, will enquire about the coiled lead when i get the lamp

  7. Got the Green filter in a kit from Uttings. Just as good as the red but best of all it don't spook the bunnies. The red filter gives you good eye reflection out past 120yds. I use the lamp mounted on top of the scope. Works a treat and is light. Must get round to trying the blue filter, see how effective that is.

cheers, looks like the max pro with filter kit and i was thinking of the 14amp lithium battery as all lamping will be done on foot, keep me posted on how you get on with the other filters

  8. I have been granted my fac cert, with a 17 HMR on it, and I not shore if I should get a 16 inche or 20 inche barrel? Wood or plastic stock? And what scope to put on it ( fix magnification or not) ? I have a good budget to spend when buying it.

    hi mate,

when i got my ticket i bought a cz 452 with 16" barrel,i also bought a few months later a anschutz 1417.22(got it at a cracking price).I was using the .22more than the hmr for a vaiety of reasons and then started using the hmr again and the differance was quite noticeable in the build quality of the two guns, not that theres anything wrong with the cz just the anschutz felt better, build felt more sturdy and even the accuracy seemed better on the anschutz.I sold the cz and bought a anshutz hmr with 14" barrel and have not looked back cracking gun,the choice is entirely yours. As for scopes ive had allsorts,i now have a zeiss 4.5-14x50 on the hmr and a hawke 3.5-10x50 on the .22 and am now happy with both set ups,all i would say is when buying your scope get a good quality one, hope this helps

  9. I use a Tracer Max pro for bunnies. The dimmer is great as you start off low and bring it up until you get the reflection from the eye. Don't go too high as it will only spook the bunnies. I have tried the amber filter as I find the bunnies are getting a bit lamp shy but the red filter is still the best. Just ordered the filter kit from Uttings to try the green filter. Let you know how it pans out.

cheers, please keep me posted. How far is the beam with the red filter on

  10. One lamp only then the 170 does a good job, red lens for rabbit, green or amber will extend the reach a bit for charlie. May well be over budget but they are worth the extra.

I am just taking to bits a lamp I bought maybe 20 years ago that has stopped working, the bulb is crimped in !!, at least the 170 bulb change is pretty easy,

i was wondering about this to with the dark nights coming in,which is best deben max pro or lightforce 170,to be used mainly for rabbits

  11. But then surely a piece of tipex on each side of the scope would do the same thing.

you might be right about the tipex, but i bought one to give it a go and the first couple of times of use it was apparent that whilst shouldering the gun in my normal way and then checking the marks on the cover i wasnt holding the gun upright and when looking through the scope and my eye wasnt in the middle of the eyepiece, after a couple of times of use it did help to correct my faults and i found i would do it automatically.Whether or not it improved my shooting im not sure but i still have it on the gun and do still check it now and again. If nothing else it serves as a flip up and the good thing about it when you flip it up it folds back flat on the scope

    cheers dave
