  1. I have tried them in several guns. They are ****! That's why there's tumbleweed blowing through the Defiant Pellets Forum ;)

Got a freebie ?? tin of Webley powa pells when I bought my lightning xl. For accuracy can't fault them ....better than me.

However at short 15 yard range they are a serious over penetrating pellet. When shooting a pigeon or cd at 15 yards and I know i've hit but the bird flies off I think oh ****.

Trying different pellets atm gun seems to like BSA Elites (domed) & its not too bad with Milbro Match wadcutters but it does not like Biz pest control hollow points. Inch out & down to the right @15 yards at 25 ???

Some of the lads on here reckon their lightnings lurve RWS super domes so going to try some.

  2. Am i right in thinking that this is a new scope recently bought along with your new gun?-if so then your dealer is liable to replace it unless it has clear signs of abuse or neglect. If your dealer is trying to tell you that the damage has been done by the recoil transmitted from the firing cycle ( resting the gun on a hard surface or not) then he has sold you an item not fit for purpose.Unless it is clearly marked on the gun that resting it on such and such a surface could damage optics then i would be banging on his door right now.More details would be usefull......

    Hi Bruno

No the dealer is not saying that at all, what he is saying is its had a knock? and from his explanation it appears whilst scopes are quite robust, they don'like knocks.

The gun manual makes no mention of such a situation.

However the dealer has asked me to leave it with him for a couple of days and he will see what he can achieve with his supplier.

From what I saw in the shop (Deepblue Shooting..~Whitely Bay) he buys a lot of scopes, so maybe the power of the buyer may work in my favour. Hope so.

Many thanks for your contribution..appreciate it.

    Regards

    Bri

  3. heard of it, as daft as it sounds different types of gun give different types of vibrations, so a scope designed for one type of gun could be shaken apart on another - i remember something saying some US manufacturer wouldnt cover scopes used on moderated centrefires as the moderator changed the vibrations the scope was subject too

Thanks for that Ozzy ...gives me something more to think about

    Cheers

  4. A few days ago I posted saying I was well chuft with the lightning I'd bought but the scope had developed a problem

Took it back to Deepblue yeaterday and Phil reckons its had a knock, loosened 1 lens and probably chipped another at the eye end.

Phil pointed out a couple of things, I could not fault his reasoning but but for the life of me it has not been knocked, not even been out with yet.

Thinking about this, I have to say I have been resting the barrel on the plastic window ledge with a thick folded cloth beneath. I am wondering if the recoil shock could have transferred to the scope and caused the damage. Anyone ever heard of such a thing?

    Cheers.

  5. I had a Renault Megane that got the treatment, which I was too busy to wash off straight away.

It ate through the laqueur and tarnished what paint it didn't eat through. That stuff is corrosive!!!!!

So true :D but can't apply rule 177 to starly birds they are exempt

  6. Now is the time of year when the elder trees out back are producing berries. These are eaten by the numerous pigeons, collared doves,

maggies and scems in our area.

So what you ask, well the tree in my drive also starts to lose its leaves giving the above pests a clear drop zone on to my car.

Washed it 8 times in one week last year, and by the time I get to work the dung has dried before I can clean it off. Its better than superglue.

Not nice having a totally purple splattered motor.

May have to take positive action this year under rule 177

    :D

  7. Well pleased with this gun, got it sighted in at about 12 yards which is all I need for the moment.

Very accurate (better than me) 5p groupings consistantly but it is only 12 yards.

Will find out later what its like at longer ranges.

Compact neat springer feels heavy for its size but its very manageable.

Recoil once you get the feel of it is easily manageable. Silencer could do with improving but for my needs its adequate.

Mechanically it is noisy but shooting from inside into garden so lot of sound bouncing off the walls, expect it will settle down once there has been a few hundred pellets though it. Only fired around 100 maybe less to date.

One criticism, the safety is totally manual, you need to reset it each time you load up so need to double up on safety procedures.

All round a cracking little gun and good value for money. Would recommend to anyone on a smaller budget and looking for a general purpose air rifle.

The scope a Hawke 3-9 x 40 mildot has developed a fault, a mark has appeared on the inside of the occular lens. Going to take it back to

Deepblue Shooting, see if they can sort it out.

  10. As Springers go the Lightning is a good value for money tool!! :good:

    Hi Dekers

  11. Hi All

Just been to Deep Blue shooting in Whitely Bay and bought a BSA Lightning XL .177 + Hawke 9-12x40 mildot IR scope. Did have my mind set on a HW90K but decided BSA would do me perfectly well and I could then afford a better scope. Not set up yet, I'll come back when it is and I've had a practise.

If anyone wants a freebie SMK SYNC XS + about 600 .22 pellets and lives no further than a twenty minute drive (its not worth driving 25 mins for) its yours. If it could be improved by someone kowledgeable and prepared to put spend time on it might suit a young lad for a bit of plinking.

If not I'll take a knacking saw to it.

Any interested PM please and I'll give my location. Its NE England near Newcastle

    :hmm::good:
