  1. Don't buy a MK2. They are ****. Invest in a MK3 or Mk1. :P The MK3 searches at 16+ feet and pinpoints accurately at 8 feet. :good:

    FM

Who in their right mind is going to dig down 8ft to a ferret?

Hence my question earlier about the 15ft locator. Is this 15 feet down the way? Or is this the horizontal search area it will pick up a signal up from?

    Still confused.

  2. Maybe its time for another spring gun? 20 years is a lot of use for a springer. If it means a lot to you, send it off and have it tuned. This will bring the recoil and 'twang' right down that affects the scope mounts.

The thing is, I have had this gun since 3rd year at school (1988) bought it for £2.50 and a packet of Polos. Used to shoot with it all the time but then moved to University so gave it to my Grandad to cull the pigeons in his garden.

When he died two years ago, the gun came back to me. I gave it a good clean, reblacked it, stripped the stock down and oiled it and generally made it like new.

If I have to buy a new one, I probably wouldn't bother as I have the two shotguns (12 bore & .410) but maybe it is time to move up to a PCP one, esp as I have 3 children just nearing the 'time to start shooting' age.

But it does mean a lot to me :-) and I like old things. Have more history.

    Oh what to do.

Last question.... where could I send it off to and roughly how much would it cost to sort out?

    thanks for your help everyone.

  3. Hi,

Not your usual request, but I want to drop the power on my Victor as it is causing the scope to creep badly.

Many moons ago when I was at school (Just worked it out, was 20 years ago <sigh>) I bought a tuning kit for my Victor which included a new spring, spring sleeve (guide?) and new washers. It fired well for many years but now the scope rails are a little thin and seem to give no grip. Also the gun feels like it is too wild.

I want an easy to handle gun, with little recoil (relative to the fact it is a spring gun) that I can shoot close targets accurately. I have had a good google but can't see anyone selling air rifle springs.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

    thanks.

  4. The MK 3, which looks like the MK 2 below:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Deben-Ferret-Finder-...1QQcmdZViewItem

    And the MK 1 below:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-new-Deben-8ft-...1QQcmdZViewItem

Hope that sorts the confusion out for you. :P

    Frank.

    That does indeed, thank you.

It must just be the Ebay sellers being confused (not the first time) as if you do a search, there are quite a few Mk2 which look like the Mk1. Just checked and there are none there just now, typical. But here is one that ended a few days ago:

    http://shrunk.net/76ac1369

From now one I will go by how they look, not the description.

    next question...

8ft or 16ft. Is the search area rather than the depth?

thanks and sorry for all the questions.

  5. Can't we just ban the birth of Chav nutcase scumbags rather than airguns?

Also, what if after these new rules, there is no decrease in the misuse of air guns? They banned pistols many years ago and that has been shown to have no relation to gun crime. Surely they can't think this law will work.

  6. My email to the CPSA on the subject has been included in Pull page 14 so they have my view - though looking back at my original email it has been edited. It does suprise me that so few have put pen to paper.

This is interesting. The article states that 20 people have written in against the name change. 3 of them are on this forum.

So, out of the x thousand of CPSA members, 15% (ie us 3) are from this forum.

    Seems strange.

  7. Hi,

I have been looking at quite a few Deben Ferret Finder Ebay items to try and get a well priced Mk1.

The trouble is, if the seller doesn't say which mark it is or doesn't know, can I tell from the picture what it is? Were the Mk1's of a certain design etc?

Or were there so many revisions and seign changes that it is impossible.

    thanks,

<Reading Ferret books by the barrow load>

  8. As someone new to clay pigeon shooting I am faced with a bewildering choice of cartridges, firstly 24g or 28g, is a lighter load a benefit or disadvantage? then shot size, are 7.5's or 8's a better choice? finally we have price, do higher priced cartridges generally perform better and if so why, or are the lower cost cartridges just as good?

If any one can give some guidance based on experience I would really appreciate it.

    Paul

I shoot the 24g 7 1/2 as it is a decent size for all targets and lower recoil so not so tiring on a 100/200 bird day.

As to how much? We pay £2.50 a box at our club as the club buys them in 10,000 batches. They are RC cartridges.

  9. What if.........common sense prevails, the name change gets voted out, the beardie weirdie treehuggers get a bloody nose, will Phil resign, as he's nailed his personal colours very firmly to the mast on this issue, and a jumbo size piece of humble pie awaits if he loses.:good::P

    Cat.

Surely he will just trumpet the fact that the CPSA democracy has prevailed again and how wonderful it is that the CPSA is driven by its members for its members.

What every good politican would do after backing the wrong horse.

  10. Ok,

Pull magazine has arrived, and on page 5 is an article about the name change along with a voting form.

They also give the details of two members you can use as your proxy.

Phil says that he has had twice as many people saying they are in favour than against, which I think is pretty poor show.

Here is a scan of the article and the form.

    pulluj6.th.jpg

I have two keeper friends who are 'not bothered' either way about this agenda so I have asked them both if I can use their votes against. If you know anyone else, might be an idea to ask them.

  11. Before you lay the slab dig in some piping underground leaving bends up into dif parts of the floor, it takes up no room and the Ferrets will love it. :good:

If I sank pipes into the concrete floor I can see some hygiene issues later on.

I will post some pic's later this week of the progress i am making.

    Look forward to the pictures.

I am starting our chciken fencing this w/end, then finish of the roof on a shed and then I can start on the ferret palace.

  12. blooming heck, sounds like there house is bigger then mine :)

    lol, it is fairly big!

Inside run will be 2.4mx1.87m and 2m in height at the apex. Two windows and a door. This is the last section of an old shed I am converting. One window to the outside, the door and other window open into the rest of the shed.

Outside run will be the same except not quite as high, need to build this.

Plan to lay concrete floors for both and have them sloping together into a drainage channel in the middle for easy cleaning which will flow off to a gravel filled sink hole. This way I can hose it down easily.

    regards,

  13. The smaller the better, even if they cant get through they could quite easily rag the bars with their teeth and break bits off them..

    Thanks for that.

    I have gone for a compromise, 1" x 1/2".

Managed to get a 16g 30m by 90cm roll for £79 inc P&P which I think is pretty good. That should be enough to do the outside run and secure the inside run windows and door.

  14. Hi,

if anyone is selling their Mk1 + collar I would be very interested.

I am planning on getting ferrets this year and am still at the stage of building their court (more like a palace though, lucky things).

Have borrowed and read loads of books (libraries are great!) and asked lots of questions, but I think now is the time to start getting some equipment together.

    many thanks,

  15. The most recent issue of either Sporting Gun or Sporting Shooter had an article on a device which used Propane and oxygen and a long nozzle.

You basically filed the hole with this mixture with the long wand and then switch of the gas, and using the wand again ignite from a safe-ish distance.

It doesn't kill by burning but by the shock wave.

But, looked pretty expensive and and heavy.

  16. Hi,

I am putting in a quite large order for fencing materials for our new chicken run (15mx7m) and thought that I could order in the mesh for the ferrets court now.

There are two types on offer, I plan to go for the 16gauge one, but my question is..

    Can I get away with 1" x 1" mesh or do I need the 1/2" x 1/2"?

I ask as the 1" mesh is half the price of the 1/2.

    thanks,

  17. FEO has just left, no problems, :good: except he said that due to the national database system there is a backlog in issueing certificates!! :good::D could be another 6 weeks!!

When mine visited a few years ago he tried to gently rock the cabinet to see if it was secure.

Mad me laugh as I had been tugging at it with one foot on the wall before hand to make sure it wouldn't come off.

The visit is never quite as bad as I expect it to be. Or maybe I just have high standards/mild case of paranoia? I did go round and put window locks on ALL the windows and replaced the outhouse door with a 5 lever. Now that took a bit of moticing, my first attempt at it but works a treat.

    flash

    Thanks for the offer Flash.

We live in Ockley (A29) so not too far from you.

I will most definately take you up on your offer of some instruction in handling in the near future.

Also, can you recommend any good books to read?

I have finished two by James Mackay which were very informative, but would like to read more on handling and rabbiting.

    thanks.

  19. Try jsramsbottom.com.

    Or Ebay.

    Ok,

just bought a 1 piece mount from jsramsbottom.com. Also bought a tin of Eley Wasps, been ages since I shot them. Way better than the mush I am using just now.

    Thanks for all your help.

Will report back with the results.

    regards,
