  1. Any hole, i mean any weak spot or anything that you find, make sure you fill them with something ferrets cant get into. They climb squeeze and dig.

Sorry to hijack this thread but...

I'm planning on laying a concrete floor in our shed and then skinning the inside of the walls with OSB (Oriented Strand Board) which is 11mm thick.

Is this suitable to stop them chewing heir way out? It has the same qualitites if not better than Plywood.

    thanks,

  2. epoxy one of the mounts on it

    Tried Epoxy before, no joy.

Had a play last night and had trouble even getting the mounts on the almost non-existant rails.

Think it's time to drop it into a gun shop, or get a replacement body as it is badly pitted with rust inside and seen better days outside.

Had a long history this gun. Bought it for £2.50 and a packet of Polos from a friend at school. Then spent many years shooting rabbits and pigeons with it, then gave it to my Grandad as he had pigeon problems, and when he died I got it back, slightly worse for wear. Which was unlike him as I always remember him being very particular about looking after his tools when I was young.

I stripped it and sanded the stock completely down then oiled it. This took months as I did a bit every night taking my time (hence the disappointment with the blueing I did) The stock looks fab though.

Now, I want to get it back into prime condition and pass it down to my kids as the oldest boy is now 8 and needs to start shooting.

    regards,

  3. Hi,

I have a Webley Victor that is suffering from really bad scope creep.

I have bought a mount with two screws per leg but this hasn't helped at all.

The mount also has a locating pin which if I could drill the gun, I could fit. But what I need to know is can I drill a small hole between the rails or not. Is there enough metal for this, and if not, what is my course of action.

Can the rails be cut deeper so the mount has more bite?

It's a lovely gun but I just can't use it.

    thanks for your help,

  4. I used the Birchwood blue on my Victor. It looked good to start with but then rubbed off fairly quickly.

This was not down to preparation as I had spent a lot of time smoothing off with various grades of wet N' dry, then 1000 grade wire wool and finally washed and cleaned with proper degreaser.

    Most disappointed.

  5. Hi,

I would like to get some ferrets this year, but before I do I would really appreciate it if someone could take me out for the day and show me the ropes and teach me some of the skills required. Not just in rabbiting, but with looking after and caring for them as well.

I am going to spend the next 3-4 months reading as much as possible, but know that first hand experience wins every time.

Even just an email address so I can pester you with questions would be appreciated.

I am in Surrey near Dorking but willing to travel.

    many thanks.

  6. Sold

And thank you for the gun, it's perfect.

It was great to meet you & the family and chat about shooting.

The kids had a go on Sunday with it and enjoyed shooting cans. Good experience for them.

    regards,

  7. Try looking on www.ferreting.biz

    It's a good site and I'm a member of the National Ferreter's Register. :D

    FM :)

I'm also looking into getting a couple of ferrets. We have an old shed I can convert into a large house and will also build an outdoor run for them.

Just need to spend from now until june/July researching and learning about their care.

I notice someone else on this thread said to get two Jills, are these preffered to hobs or is it a persoanl opinion?

    thanks,

  8. I was wondering how fast a standard clay flies (if there is such a thing).

I ask as I am trying to work out how far it will travel by the time the shot hits it (or in my case misses behind it).

Say a left to right crosser with the trap 35 yards away. I fire and my shot travels at about 1450m/s?

Also, how long is the shot string by then and what is the margin of error between the front of the string and the end?

I'm not planning on getting too technical but am interested in the figures.

    thanks,

  9. A pump action at a clay ground....now that is quality.....Just like the only fools and horses episode when del goes to the pheasant shoot with a sawn off pump....And you are right....its not really what someone is shooting with....a £30,000 purdy is no different to a £150 Baikal if the shooter cant hit the target.

One of the guys at our club has a very expensive gun that he bought from the police. It had been cut down and used in a robbery. It is just on the legal limit for length of barrel and needless to say he gets a lot of ribbing for his 'open chokes' :)

  10. To be honest you can find this kind of snobbery anywhere. Outside the local school, in the company car park, anywhere.

The best thing you can do is: be a safe shot, maybe get one of those safety flags that sits in the chamber if you don't already have one, be honest, friendly and pleasant, and then shoot better than anyone else!

At our club we are a rag tag bunch of farmers, keepers and general oinks. There are a few with really nice guns and all the equipment but they are straight down the line types of guys. The first gun I ever used when shooting clays was a pump action I borrowed on the day. I imagine that would be really frowned upon these days :-)

Just prove to them that it is the person behind the gun, not the amount of £££'s spent on a shiny new weapon that counts.

  11. I went up to Horne last week for my first registered shoot and did really badly (41/100). :good:

There I said it, I feel better now, cleansed almost.

Rather than spanking good money on expensive courses, I think I would be better off spending it on some quality instruction.

I have thumbed through Google for a ground/instructor, but has anyone got any recommendations in the Surrey area, around Dorking/Horsham?

We have Lower Lodge close by and Headley up the road. But open to any other suggestions. And willing to travel.

    thanks.

  12. Andy,

my trusty Baikal stock cracked a while ago and I just could not get a replacement anywhere.

I left it with a gun shop for a couple of months and they tried everything they knew but came up blank.

In the end I just bought a laurona.

    Good luck.
