  1. Beware of sending e-mails lots of companies like this do just that to get lists of valid e-mail addresses to sell to people who will then spam you.

The results look like a google type search for your details which show up if they are elsewhere online

  2. the wind thing is always the argument against the .17, but its also used against it when comparing with the .22LR, If you compare like for like so 75 yards max which is pretty much what the .22 is accurate to then the .17 isn't affected that much at all.

.22LR only accurate to 75 yards... don't be ridiculous.. I zero at 100 yards and shoot to 150+ as for 2" of drift that's a hit or a miss when taking a head shot at a rabbit! Of course you could always peirce it's ears...

well if you can do that with a .22 just think what you'd be capable of with a .17

300 yard shots on rabbits would be an everyday occurence by the sounds of it :)

  3. be carefull with the digger, in certain conditions you can end up digging through the soil layer thats impervious to water and making it drain. If it was man made some have a compacted clay layer to hold the water in. Yours looks natural so you should be ok but it may be worth digging some by hand to see whats under the surface first. Looks like a great project the other thing to bear in mind is this years been a lot drier than usual so you may find by clearing the chanel it will fill up anyway as soon as we get enough rain

  4. Exactly its good to know where it comes from. We used to do work for a company that used to make the batter coatings etc for processed chickens and turkeys etc. I had the misfortune of going to a few Bernard mathews plants and thats enough to put you off chicken nuggets for life.

You just can't beat locally reared food on small farms or shooting it yourself for the knowledge its been reared properly or in the wild

  5. its the filters for Mastitis lumps that used to put me off!

but that letter is totally misleading and generalises the industry just putting bad points accross. Total propaganda it would be far better spent lobbying for supermarkets to increase their payment to farmers for milk so the cows could be reared less intensively and focus more on welfare

  6. they do ramble on but there are a few points. Milk production isn't that great for the cow or calves. Especially while beef exports were banned bull calves were being put down in many cases when they were born, just because the cow has to have a calf to produce milk.

More concerning though is organic milk production where they can have mastitis for longer and they try to avoid treating it so they keep the milk organic.

Having worked on a few farms there are quite a few things that could put you off drinking milk

  7. Mmmmmmm,

CZ have a darstadly marketing plan - confuse the shooters and get them to talk about all the differences.

My rifle - .17hmr - is the bottom pictured (no chequering up front and a blunter finish to the forend) - heavy barrel - but stamped "American" - so it's an American right :)!!!

No bluing on the action and matt finish.

AndyCM - more confused than a newbie :*)

same here mines the same, heavy barreled known as Varmint but printed American

  8. don't worry too much you missed and now know different so no real harm done. I've shot plenty with shotguns years ago when we were clearing out a local shoot as it was totally over run with them obviously using heavy lead but its a grey area law wise.

  9. I've moved house relatively recently to a grade 2 listed house where security is going to be an Issue as windows are fairly flimsy and will be nearly impossible to lock etc. But what I'm planning to do is to convert what is at the moment a downstairs loo into a gun room. It has one tiny window that I can put bars on and one door that I will fit with a metal backing and insurance approved locks etc. Then the safe will be in there. What I'd like to know is is this likely to be acceptable for firearms and shotguns, or will the FEO insist on all windows having locks that we may not be able to comply with due to the Listed buildings people. The guns are still at my previous address so safe keeping at the moment is not a problem but I would like to move them.

  10. the wind thing is always the argument against the .17, but its also used against it when comparing with the .22LR, If you compare like for like so 75 yards max which is pretty much what the .22 is accurate to then the .17 isn't affected that much at all. But if you start taking long shots so 150-200 yards then it is. We were playing with mine at the weekend in @ a 20mph crosswind and at 200 yards we were geting a foot of deflection as it was onto very dry drilling you could see nicely what was happening. But still you could hit a stella can after two shots to see what was happening try that with your .22

But brought back to 100 yards it was perhaps 2 inches of drift which really isn't that much in the real world and easy to compensate for, it just means you leave the long shots if its really windy

  11. Whatever you think,he shouldnt of had a gun wich he said he found one morning in the back of his car,he shouldnt of hid gun after shooting, and he should of shouted out from top of stairs like most people would of done.even if he warned he had a gun,as for him having is bt line blocked from making 999 calls he could of called his mum.after watching documentry it only harms those who hold FAC SHOT GUN tickets,if he had stabbed them it would of been a differnt story

A 50-odd tear old guy confronting two young ****** with a knife.

I think I we can guess what the result of that would have been. A dead Farmer.

Do you think when you are 50 you will have the b*lls to confront intruders who have just forced entry into your home with a knife?

He may be a strange sort of person, but he defended himself and his property.

I have to say I wasn't meaning to upset anyone just to put accross the side of the story that he did a lot of things he shouldn't have done. The police had taken his guns away as they saw him as a threat and he had gone out and got another illegal one. Which in itself is enough to get you sent away. He was excentric left his house in a state where it did look deserted then used the gun on people who broke in. With the state the house was in it could just as well have been kids mucking about. As it was it was a pair of ****** who no one would miss but he didn't know that when he was shooting at them running away. Had it been a legally held gun that the owner fearing for his life got out of the cabinet and used then I would think differently but it wasn't. Personally I've often thought about the what if scenario where someone broke into the house at night would you unlock the gunsafe or not? If so would you just take pot shots at the burglar or simply threaten them?

  12. There are many ways I feel very sorry for him, if you ignore the scum that he shot as they are typical ****** and should not get a penny from the system they did get their just deserts, but Tony Martin had his shotguns taken from him then obtained an illegal one which is easy enough then in effect laid traps and waited for burglars with the gun at the ready which is something people just cannot be allowed to do. Yes he had been let down by the police but he wasn't exactly helping himself. He could have made efforts to make his house secure and less likely to be burgled with things such as security lights and burglar alarms etc like most people do but no he slept with a loaded gun under the bed.

Ok he shouldn't have gone down for long and possibly not for the shooting but the fact is he had an unlicensed shotgun with amunition which is Imprisonable anyway,

  13. Which Golf course Rio, as it looks like you're in my neck of the woods, My .17 gets most of its exercise near Hitchin.

Its a cracking round and unless you've loads of rabbits far more fun than a .22LR as you can hit the really long shots as long as you have a good scope and a bit of ability. Do you find the 20 grain bullets cause much less meat damage? as so far I've stuck to the Vmax's as a lot of our shooting is just to control vermin on a friends farm so damage isn't an issue which is a good thing if the rabbits are close!

  14. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england...olk/3009769.stm

this gives a quick rundown of his attitude to firearms, and on that basis I believe he should have been sent down.

On the other hand they did get what they deserved but had that been kids breaking into what they thought was a deserted house just for a look round he would have shot them as well, if you look at the picture at the bottom of the article it gives an idea of what his house looked like. Had it been a legally held gun in a normal farmhouse where the burgulry had happened just after the owner got in from "rabbit shooting" and he'd fired in self defence that would have been fine but it didn't

  15. I didn't see the programme but from what I remember there were a few problems with him not going to prison.

The firearm wasn't legally held from what I remember, so obviously wasn't secured as per the terms of a license. The guys were running away from him at the time as well so he wasn't technically in danger. Don't get me wrong he should never have felt like he needed to take that action but he did live in a boarded up house that looked like it was empty and was effectively lying in wait for them with shotgun at the ready.

They were scum that broke in but for people that hold legal guns we should be re-assured that he wasn't allowed to just do it and get away with it as that kind of action in todays society does put our ability to have guns at risk.

  16. Try admiral or Bell direct or Elephant, they are all part of the same company, I'm 30 with 6 years no claims and my fourtrack is £190 fully comp with me and the girlfriend and my brother as named drivers

  17. I like his missus, anyone who describes Red Tape as a 'pile of ####' is OK by me ;)

I was a bit partial to his missus as well but had more to do with the tops she was wearing :)

It was a good programme and did show what farmers have got to do to make money these days, by producing a quality product and I'm guessing those pigs taste so much better than the usual factory farmed rubbish.

Shame the fox shooter didn't kill it any cleaner for the cameras and that they waited till the next day to pick it up! The council people didn't want to be filmed as they already knew they were going to refuse everything he wanted to do. Some of which I can see would be a pain if you lived on the road but yes Mailorder and a proper retail outlet is probably what he needs to focus on

  18. I've got A/T's on my fourtrack or the paupers equivalent from Colway ;)

not a bad tyre till the going gets very bad and on road they are very good. I bought it with a proper set of A/T's on and had the purchase receipt and they did 50K so guess its possible. My ones at the mo have done 15K and hardly look worn at all

  19. our JR swam at 12 weeks old, the weirdest thing I've seen, I was swimming and the girlfriend passed her in, before she had even touched the water her legs were paddling and she swam as soon as she was in :)

now she's a complete nutter round water you can't keep her out even puts her head under and tries to dive for submerged sticks! very strange for a JR

  20. If its on ground you shoot on I would burn it on a hot fire, this is for a few reasons if its bird Flu it will destroy it and save anything else eating it or coming into contact with it. If it has been poisoned it stops lots of questions being asked about local shooters and landowners when it may be nothing to do with anyone in your area. The same applies to if its been shot questions may be asked and the landowner may even get enough hastle to stop people shooting on the land.

The other reason to burn is if it happens to have been tagged with a radio transmitter that some birds of prey are it destroys them so no one finds the carcass

  21. as said it is likely to be glow plugs it is possible its just one thats failed but change them all, The main sign is white / grey smoke on startup which is unburnt diesel this then clears and the engine stops being lumpy as soon as warm.

If its blue smoke on startup it means oil is passing the rings if this clears nearly straight away just leave it its not serious and will carry on for ages like it. If the blue smoke carries on once the engine is warm and you get puffs of it on downchanges etc its the valve seals.

Personally I'd say its down to the cold and glow plugs from what you are saying. You can try giving it two blasts with the glow plugs before starting in the morning and seeing if this helps. Otherwise I'd change the glow plugs and get it a bottle of one shot injector cleaner to help clean them.
