Ask for Duffy's vouchers so hopefully.. stocking up on ammo for the .223 as the powers to be i'm told are going to RESTRICT this first!!

Roll on St. Stephens Day (Boxing Day).. fox beating at 8am followed by either vermin shooting or Deer.. :good:

  3. Hi Eoin,

You weren't in Galway getting bits for a maglite Saturday were ya? Yeah I'll add more to his diet, we have sheepdogs so the nuts won't be a problem, would they eat thawed out sweetcorn too I wonder? I've got a good supply of food for him so if a few more customers come in I can accomodate them easily.

I've not got any Magpie as yet, the holes are still large enough for them to fly up and out of as far as I know. I've also got a mesh metal Larsen cage out, it's up on a height to keep it away from those cats... If I start catching maggies you're more than welcome to them.

The blocked up hole was dug by a mink, he climbed up the trap and couldn't get out until he dug his way out. In the first picture I've made a little timber tunnel, inside there are two set mk 6 fenns incase the ****** decised to come back. I've taken measures to make sure my crow can't get caught in them so that's not a worry  There was also a fox sniffing around the cage but he went to the big den in the sky

Nope.. wasn't in galway.. I just order online now! Stock piling for Christmas at the moment, more ammo and traps than I can handle.. if this ****** weather would only improve .. lost about 200 acres of prime hunting land to water in the last week alone...

Mink!! I take more pleasure in shooting these little *******! Hope you get him.. use No.4 fenn myself (only when the cage traps wont do)

Let me know if you get a magpie..I'll pick up no hassle.. can only seem to get grays at the moment :)

  4. Firstly, far play on the trap, looks the business!!

I've 3 Grey in a storage cage for weeks now and once the can spread they wings and move around to keep warm they will have no problem surviving! I find a good mixed diet, everything from meat to dog nuts ...

I find the more birds in the trap the faster it will fill up.. don't be in a rush to whack them over the head!

If you get a spare magpie let me know.. :) could really do with a few of those little ******* especially in the next few weeks as I'm taking a few weeks off at Christmas and intend to hunting and trapping for most of it !!

P.S - is that an attempted break in, in the first picture?

  5. Thanks for all the replies :good: Weather isn't great at the moment so not sure when I'll get out again. More to come in the future though!

Nice to get the first one in the bag!

Gales and rain :| To wet and cold to even put the larsen traps out! Think my pet Grey Crows are going to start nesting in there little pen soon

  6. Thanks Eoin,

Please do upload pics of your cage ;) I'm really looking forward to busting maggies and greycrows (safe shots) when I get the .223 they're more common here than grains of sand on a beach. What's your secret with the Larsen trap, I had no success with it whatsoever. Last night got pretty breezy here towards the end of our night, would've made for difficult cross breeze shots. Looking forward to going out again :lol::no:

I use the circular trap with 4 trap doors and call bird in the center.. works a treat.. :) (I'll upload photos soon)

Have a large holding cage for keeping spare birds as i like to switch them regularly.

You ever want a grey..let me know!

If I could just get a magpie.. haven't had one for two months now.. :good:

Shot a hare two weeks ago at 110yrd with the .223 in a really strong crosswind.. no problems ..

  7. Good work :good:

Didn't manage to get out last night, was a crackin night for it nice and calm! It better improve this evening miserable at the moment!

Got a Marlin .17 for testing ;) this weekend so hopefully get a few Greys \ Magpies \ Rabbits will be in the bag come Sunday night

Busy out with the larsen traps all week, 22 Greys caught so far.. must upload a picture of my holding cage! :)

  8. Well the weather finally hit -2 last night.. beautiful clear night with no wind. Headed out for a few hours..

    Got these 3 charlies... taken with a T3 Tactical- 55gr Remington Accu-tip.

First taken at the back of a local farmers house sniffing around his Hen house about 75yards out center of the chest with no exit wound.

The fella was hit in the chin, breaking his leg and exiting in the lower stomach. I was positioned high on a hill. about 60yards out

  9. Well first night of the October the the temperture dropped below 10 degrees! :/ Even if it was only 9 degrees there was a nice crisp breeze and i haven't been lamping for many months!

I hand no lamp man so it was a solo effort .. just popped out to a island (with a road bridge) not far from my house, about 300 acres off short coastal grass with sheep grazing.

Used the old aeroboard on the windscreen tonight as my battery in my caller was dead.

These two came into me after about 10 minutes of calling. The Remington 55gr BT rounds dropped them like flys! :good:

Had very bad glare from the lamp back into the scope!! :/
