  1. Hi all. Thanks for everyone's input on this matter. A little update. The wife's brother is transferring the guns to his sgc. I'm glad they are staying within the family abd not being split up.
  2. There were very good strikes on all the rims that didn't go off first time round which is what had me some what perplexed. 2 different ammo types. Does the cold have much effect on ignition? The guns and ammo are stored in a cold area plus it was pretty chilly Sunday!? Thanks for this. I think I will give the bolt a good service and clean to eliminate this as the culprit.
  3. I took the T-Bolt out today to zero for the first time in a long time today. My new years resolution is to do more shooting after having a 3 and a bit year hiatus (children, covid etc.). Now, I had 2 boxes of Hornady 17grains that have been in the cabinet all that time and I had a few no fires - cartridge was marked by the pin but no bang. I thought it may have been a one off but happened 3 more times. Decided to switch over to some new Winchester's I bought last week and has exactly the same issue with a few rounds. I took out the culprits, inspected and retried. One of them took 2 attempts to fire. My thinking is a sticky firing pin, any idea how to strip the bolt for a good clean & oil as suspect it is gummed up after all this time sitting idle (never had issues before).
  4. Thank you for your reply. I have not actually seen the guns yet but the wife believes one to be a beretta and the other unknown (father or grandfather's gun of the deceased so one assumes a sxs of some sort). The auction route does seem a good idea and I will broach this with her. I like to think of myself as an honest person so if I like the Beretta I will make her a decent offer based on market price (using guntrader etc. For reference).
  5. Good evening all. A family friend's husband passed away 15 months ago. He held a shotgun certificate with 2 shotguns and these are still secured in a cabinet. Now, admittedly the wife should have notified the firearms department to obtain a temporary licence for a determined period of time (3-6months the norm?)to allow a decision to be made on how to dispose - naturally this wasn't top of her priority list. Now, I am a licenced shotgun holder and have said I would be interested in seeing the guns with the potential of buying them. First question. If I buy the guns, how do I go about adding these to my certificate? Can I add these on to my own cert and notify firearms department per normal procedure? Or should I contact my local firearms department before making an offer? Second question. If I decide I don't want the guns, I would like to help her dispose of the guns. We both live close to an RFD. Would it just be a case of asking them if they are happy to have them to dispose off? Or should she arrange with the firearms team to collect/deliver to an appropriate station. The gentleman's cert had only just been renewed so there won't be any contact from the firearms for atleast 3 years. Should she also return his certificate? Any advice greatly received.
  6. Yes pro shooting indeed. You feel you can ask any questions and get an honest and professional answer which is the way it should be. Too much red tape and differing views from all counties. Finally picking up my new t-bolt tomorrow after what feels like an age.
  7. I posted a few weeks ago regarding a request for a new referee for my firearms application. Well today my Fac & coterminous Shotgun certs have arrived only 19 days after first applying! Hats of to Suffolk Constabulary and Chris Allen. I have a Browning T-bolt on its way I feel for all the people waiting months and months and glad I live in a very efficient parts of this kingdom.
  8. Thought this may be a good place to advertise, I must state that it is however for sale elsewhere also. This might be an ideal Shooting man's mode of transport! There is not a lot I can find on them apart from a few odd pictures and that they were made in the U.S.A ( if anyone knows anything please share) Recently rebuilt, includes spare engine & other associated parts. Starts and runs with forward and reverse. Engine is a Briggs & Stratton 656cc air cooled flat twin (16HP) which pulls very well. As seen in the photos tipper body is hand operated. Twin rear discs in good working condition. Pigeon Shooters? Gamekeeper? Or just a bit of fun. I am selling this on behalf of a family friend but is located at my house. If you wish to know anything else please don't hesitate to ask. I can also email pictures on request as they are too large to upload here. Paul Rodgers (owner) 07714899083. Offers in excess of £600.
  9. I have just joined a club but probation is 6 months. There is someone there who would be willing to show me the ropes with centre fire.
  10. So had my interview today. Decided just to get a .17hmr asked for .223 told wait a year. Can't argue with that as I haven't had a lot of experience with centerfire.
  11. This is my gun for sale. Please Pm if interested/more info. F2F only please.
  12. Well I've just sent off my new referee form 201 and signed photograph. Fingers crossed Suffolk are pretty quick and hopefully hear something within the next week.
  13. I understand about the criminal record but he holds a current fac and shotgun cert. Surely they wouldn't have granted these if he's not even fit to be a referee? I've known him 7+ years and shoot with him regularly. Hopefully I've found a suitable 3rd referee ex tax man and long term family friend plus he was my rugby coach for 2+ years. Fingers crossed this time!
  14. I thought the same thing but no I only have to submit 1 other referee and they have sent one of my blank photographs back to be signed.
  15. Do you not think it strange because the other one is a fac and shotgun cert holder. So what might deem then unsuitable?
  16. So first post in a while although I have been a regular reader. I have just applied for my firearms certificate having been shooting rifles regularly with my friend. I have received back a letter from suffolk firearms stating that one of my referees is not suitable. My first referee is a long time family friend and teacher and my other is said friend with current Fac and shotgun certificates. I was a bit perplexed so I rang the flu and due to data protection could not specify who and why. So I just have to find another referee. Point worth mentioning the family friend did act as referee for my shotgun certificate, could this have any bearing on the application?
  17. Well that's my point i did'nt know what to do. And reading what they can do in distress i did not want to get too close. i wanted to put it out of its misery but how. It was soon up and away through the dense undergrowth onto private property, i have no dog and i was not going to go chasing after it.
  18. Yes that was what i was thinking. i've got a fire extinguiser under my seat but between hitting the thing and it running away i didn't have enough time
  19. Yes i had one of these land in the garden a while ago. It was quite tame, well i was within 10 feet of it and the cat was near! I did take a photo of it but i think it was on my old phone.
  20. Unfortunately i hit a muntjac on the way back from a mates tonight. Silly thing ran straight across the road had no chance, thing is i clipped it, no damage to my suki vit but the munty was a bit worse off. A very badly broken leg, it got up after a few mins, after reading a thread recently on humane dispatch of deer i was contemplating what to do ( i did have some of my shooting equipment with me such as my knife), but it soon ran off into the undergrowth in distress shrieking which wasn't nice. I dont like causing suffering let alone it running off to die. Just hope a fox finishes it off quickly. What would you have done?
