  1. I've just picked up my second .17 HMR and tried to zero it with the Hornady V-Max that I had in the cupboard. To my surprise I couldn't get a 2" group at 100yds! In a little bit of a panic, I checked all the action screws, checked the barrel was floated properly and swapped the scope and mod, with the same result. So I started phoning round my local RFD's in search of some other ammunition, but they all said the same thing.... They are only able to get Hornady at the moment. Desperate by now, I remembered that I had 1/2 a box of CCI 20gr Gamepoint in the cupboard. To my relief they gave a respectable sub 1" group at 100yds in a light wind. So any worry about a defective rifle was gone. But it did leave me with two questions. 1- Has anyone else had trouble with the Hornady ammo, because I haven't heard of anyone wo has anything other than praise for it (and I was among them until now)? 2- Why can't my local RFD's get hold of anything else??
  2. I've just bought my third CZ452. This one's the 20" varmint and another .17HMR (if I had to choose one calibre, this would be it). I much prefer the slightly longer barrel, although I realise I may be in the minority there. Once you've fitted one of the trigger kits, which are only about fifteen quid, it's a fantastic rifle. I picked it up brand new for £375 from my local gun shop. It's worth shopping around because my other local gun shop wanted £510 for exactly the same thing! You'll pay more than double for a Sako, but it won't shoot any better. In my opinion, the CZ looks much nicer too. Good luck with whatever you get!
  3. Great stuff Spud! Is this the same place as the big mansion house on your Wings website?
  4. I went up there a few weeks ago and couldn't believe how well run, professional and productive it was. We were put right under the flight-lines on every shoot! Four guns bagged 48 geese (which has made for a very well stocked freezer). Accommodation was excellent too. I'd have happily paid four times as much for it. Many thanks SGS. Highly recommended!
  5. It was a top weekend Spud! You put us under plenty of Geese. I won't forget this weekend in a hurry!
  6. I don't understand some people. They'll happily put a bullet in a fox, but object to putting a collar on one!? I do however have two objections of my own: 1: Pink should never be worn by gingers! 2: Spud.... you gave it a cuddle and sent it home to it's mum!?
  7. I thought they made them all? Do Winchester make their own?
  8. Eh!? Good luck figuring that one out!
  9. I've been using Hornady 17 grain V-max in my CZ, and achieving sub 1inch groups at 110yds. I recently bought some Winchester Supreme 17 grain V-Max because the shop didn't have any Hornadys. Five shot groups with these were rarely sub 4inch. I was astonished at the difference (especially as I'd stupidly bought 250 of them) Has anyone else experienced such extreme group sizes with different HMR ammo?
  10. Cheers for all your help Spud. I would have still been chasing after them with the air rifle if you hadn't set me straight. Got my .17 to play with next week. Now, where did I put that form for a .243........?
  11. You're obviously new to rabbit skin posing pouches TaxiDriver! With moderate knowledge of Oryctolagus cuniculus anatomy, and rudimentary sewing skills it's quite easy to fashion a functional posing pouch with fur in contact with both the scrotal area, and the admiring eye. Perhaps I ought to make a YouTube video for the uninitiated?
  12. I'll be at home making the scrumptious rabbit pies, and sewing the pelts into cute posing pouches (large for Spud, small for me). I'm sure the rest won't want to see, but I'll send send you a couple of pics of us both modelling them if you fancy? Seems like you have the type of warped mind that might take a little enjoyment from them! The thought of us in rabbit posing pouches, and you with a box of tissues kinda makes me cringe.
  13. I'm interested in the pictures and text (regardless of quality). If I wanted an English lesson I'd be looking on the TEFL website. If you're going to post on here, please make it something we want to see.
  14. Thanks Dunkield. It looks great. I'll give them a call and see if they're still selling them.
  15. Thanks. I can't find it listed on their website. Perhaps I'm not looking hard enough? I'll have a better look when I have more time.
  16. Yeah, I searched for threads, but the only links I found were obsolete.
  17. Hello all. I've just bought two CZ452's and a couple of trigger kits to go with them, but does anyone know if you can buy replacement trigger guards? The factory ones are perfectly functional, but I'd like to replace the pressed steel.
  18. I'd say the wound is much older than the nest. The reactional growth you can see at the edges will have taken many years to form (that's not to say the nest hasn't taken many years to build). I agree it's probably a Jackdaw though. I'm a tree surgeon and come across quite a few of these, none quite as impressive as this though!
  19. 83! Christ, I'll be lucky to reach 38. Goon on the old boy, and nice one Spud.
  20. I'm in the same boat at the moment. I'm after a new rimfire but don't want a CZ, not because there's anything wrong with them! Done plenty of shooting with them and they're great, but I don't want one for the same reasons I don't want a Mondeo. Decided on the Anschutz myself.
  21. If it's windy where you live and you're worried about the HMR, what about a WMR? Just putting it out there...
  22. Nice work mate! Any chance you could send those pics we took at Royal St Georges to my e-mail when you get a minute. Cheers buddy.
  23. This is a very interesting brannigan, but as facilitator of this thread I ought to point out that it's gone a little off topic. The .17HMR is a model 1517, and my inquiry was about the 1417. Nice groups though people!
  24. Hey! They're my rabbits he's shooting, and if carries on like that there'll be none left for me! Great stuff Miles! Excellent work.
  25. I'm considering buying a new Anschutz 1417 with a sporter stock, but have read various articles about them having problems with the bolt not sitting properly/being easily knocked, and causing misfires, and also that they have issues ejecting spent cartridges. Most of the articles do seem to be quite dated and I'm wondering if these issues have been resolved. I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who knows. Thanks...
